Stolle Teddy action re- work

I don't think that insert was ever in an action... It's interesting that it's threaded though, I would think both the insert and body would be threaded in the same operation...

Either way, if they aren't threaded to the action, I'm really curious how they assemble them.
Stolle’s at least the 4 that I own have threaded steel inserts. What they are torqued to or how they are installed at the factory I have no idea.

To the OP,s question it looks like there is pretty good contact maybe a light lap, check your headspace and good to go.
YMMV

I was told by George Kelbly in 2007 that the inserts were made double ended and installed in action on each end and torqued. He said hammered together.
Actions are separated then finish machined. I do not know if their procedure has changed in the last 15 years.

Here's the straight skinny on the inserts

Starting with rectangular bar stock. Drilled bored and threaded
Treaded plugs screwed in and epoxied.
Barrel insert then drilled and threaded for the barrel
Lug ways then broached
action body machined between centers

Went out to take a closer look at the Kelbly insert....

Looks like it's had lug contact at some point. And, just a guess, the body looks like it had threads on it that got turned off.

i dont know about the indexing lines but kelby sales that piece as a tool for people to use for making the tenons for pandas.dont have to have the action.

You want to lap that new bolt in anyhow. All Kelbly actions have the bolts lapped in at the factory, and replacement bolt should also be lapped in or at least checked. Some bolts were lapped more than others and a new bolt will not have the same lug contact as one that was lapped in aggressively.

I know this sounds beyond basic to most of the guys out there doing barrels, but it is amazing what you run into sometimes when measuring actions for headspace and other dimensions.
To Alex’s point, you really need to measure everything, every time, and keep good notes. Sometimes twice, and don’t trust your notes.
Some people apparently feel that if a “little” cleanup is good then another .001 or 2 or 3….. will really make that action shoot!
Really a problem with “accurized” Remingtons.
YMMV
