Stolen Rifle alert… 94 Marlin 357

Was purchasing a marlin Cowboy Classic in 357 with 24” octagon barrel. It was stolen by postal employees… (shocker). I have the serial number available. If you come across one for sale PLEASE let me know and lets compare serial numbers so the guy can get his rifle back. He’s refunding me but am pretty sure he’ll never see a dime from the post office.

That’s sucks! Best of luck recovering it. My son lost three over and under shotguns last year, stolen out of his truck at the trap range. About 8k worth, crushed him, nothing as crappy as a liar and a thief.

I have all his info obviously and the serial number. It's not a very common rifle at all so with any luck, after the "look what I pilfered because I'm a raging POS" wears off they will try to sell it. It was stolen after it left his post office in SW Louisianna on it's way to Houston. With any luck it'll show up for sale in SE Texas or West Mississippi....

I try to stay as far away from the postal service as I can as I got tired of things getting lost (??) or boxes ripped open. Lowest form of life in the government food chain.
The crappiest thing is that FedEx and UPS tend to sub to USPS from time to time, causing your shipment to pass into a black hole for undetermined lengths of time, sometimes to never pop out the other side.

Had this happen selling to a gentleman on the forum. It did eventually show up almost two months later. I agree that USPS insurance is a joke. They will only accept a receipt from a licensed retailer as proof of value. Imagine how that might work on a transaction of a custom firearm between two private parties, which is what mine was…. Very enlightening experience.

If it had to go the northeast postal distribution center on Aldine Bender Rd, near Intercontinental Houston, good luck. A known black hole for the distribution of stolen items.

Actually doesn't look like it even made it that far... He was paying for the shipping so I let him do what he wanted... I use UPS next day on everything over the last year. If it's valuable enough to ship, I'll eat the extra $50 to make sure there are no headaches... ;)

I had a clear case with many pictures or UPS misshandled something that was packed or so secure he would have had to drop it from a 100'. They denied the claim. So insurance does nothing.

They concluded that if the item was damaged it must not have been packaged correctly because there's no way they could have damaged it.
So 3 days after the settlement I went to ship another rifle I asked the employee at UPS to inspect the rifle And the packaging to guarantee it was packaged properly for shipment by their services. He told me they will not do that. He actually said their insurance was a joke and they never pay.

If it crossed state lines it would seem that a few more ABC agencies would have jurisdiction besides the Postal Disservice?

I have a customer who is a postal inspector. He takes any firearm related investigation very serious, too bad not all of them seem too.

I’m a little confused, which is not unusual at my age.
Did you purchase a gun from a individual and he shipped it to you by USPS? The gun disappeared or was stolen, in any event you never received the item.
If that is the case I would view this as the gun was stolen from the seller and you have no responsibility to pay for merchandise that you didn’t receive. Maybe I misunderstand the whole situation. I don’t think it’s possibly to steal something from you that you never had.

Box containing a easily identifiable rifle has been “missing” in the postal service for over a month. If you happen to see one for sale would you kindly give me a heads up.

Is that clearer?
