stocks

been looking at stockys and i don,t quite understand why such a price difference bell&carlson for a rem 700 varmint w aluminum bedding 259,h-s 350,and manners is between 600 and 700 whats up is b&l not accurate is manners that much better and if so how i want a rifle that is as accurate as i can shoot it and will spend the money if need be but i would like to know why and what i am getting for the extra dollars thanks

danny: Over the years I've had several Bell & Carlson Medalist "Tactical" stocks, and just recently had one fitted to my 308. Have never been disappointed.

I have seen less flexing at the tip of the forend, something I have seen in several other brands.

If you are going to be ultra rough the Manners will hold up better then the B and C. The BC is also not as straight as the Manners in the barrel channel. Are the Manners worth twice the cost of the BC, I don't think so.

thanks for taking the time to answer me and i understand that i am not planning to use this as service rifle so don,t need it to hold up to rigorous conditions simply a bench gun i don,t even have plans as of yet to use in competition just a paper puncher so i think the b&l or at very least the h-s will be quite good enough thanks again to both of you

Having owned both of the brands you mentioned in your original post, the B&C stocks fit my factory Rem 700 rifles better than my Manners have. The Manners needed some modification to the bolt handle cut out. Not major, but for the money, I expected better. Just my experience...

Hope your stock shopping goes well for you.

Would not hesitate to buy the B&C - have had three and all were great. B&C is a more mass-produced stock and has been around longer than H-S or Manners. Their moulds are paid for many times over. Their quality remains high though and they are very solid.

thanks pulpit and watercam i was leaning more toward the h-s i really appreciate your input and now thanks to all of you i feel confident i making my purchase and i will be buying a b&c thanks again this forum is a great tool for things like this aand i am grateful to have it

I used to have somewhat of a negative opinion of B&C BUT since I have seen their medalist stocks up close, and seen how rifles that a friend has built on them have performed (with actions bedded) I have completely changed my opinion. They seem to be more stiff in their forends than the HS Precision stocks that I have seen, and in all respects seem to be well done. I think that you will be pleased if you try one.

stock looks and feels great the barrel and action are still stock but i have also replaced the trigger with a calvin elite the scope is a sightron sii 6x24 i bought off the classifieds in this forum thanks for the help guys

this flat bottom of the for end is what i like best about it after the aluminum bedding that is i hope that this means i wont need to glass bed the action

The stock looks great! I have a B&C on a Weatherby Vanguard that works very well.

I really suggest you replace the front bag on your Caldwell rest. You need one that fits the stock better, like a Protecktor. I would purchase a better rear rest too...notice how round it is on the bottom? It will shoot okay but you will shoot better and more consistently with better bags.

i appreciate that and i have had that problem and was told by my friend that is instructing me it was a problem i just bought that rest so i did not know but i will replace them soon thanks and keep'em coming lol

danny3_8: An adapter I made for one of my older B&C medalist stocks. A piece of polished aluminum, 3" wide x 6" long x 1/2" thick.

B&C does not hold close tolerences for the spacing of their front forend studs, they do vary, so when I fitted it to the newer B&C had to fill-in the original screw holes with JB Weld & redrill to fit the present stock.

No more torqueing / twisting in the Protector cordura front bag, mounted in my Sinclair front rest. Recoils stright back, smoothly like it's on roller bearings, and I still have the option of using the Harris front bi-pod. 26" Krieger, 1-10 twist, 308 Win., with a brake.

The rear bag is backwards in your photo setup ... and I 2nd upgrading front and rear bags. I believe a 2-14" wide Protektor front bag would be a much better fit. Note how your front bag does not allow your stock to contact the fore-end stop on the rest.
For a rear bag , call Protektor and tell them the details on your stock ( i.e cheek piece? rounded bottom? ) and they will get you the proper one. Also, I always remove the swivel studs for bench sessions.

the rock that i have came with a smaller front bag that was not filled does anyone know if it is worth messing with or should i just go ahead and get protector also i have been using this bag but not backwards this was just a quick throw together to take a picture lol thanks for all the help guys i really do appreciate it
