Stock that was never deliverd

This is a text book proving that excelling in something doesn't mean you can run a business.

In my line of work there are many people out there who seem to have a knack for what they do , to the degree that one would think they were born to do it..

However these same people could not in any way shape or for run their own business...

On the rare occasion you can find someone who knows very little about their products and services but can make that business work IF they surround themselves with the rite people.

When I am shelling out my cash for a service or product I expect a certain standard of professionalism.

Mainly I was just letting the people know they are alive and still in business which was the OP original question.

I purposely didn't get into their business practices. There are other issues as well, but I don't think they would appreciate me getting into those subjects.

Giving accurate delivery info is not hard. If something is going to take 12 months, say so. I can then decide if I am willing to wait. Don't tell me it is going to take 4 months and have it take 6 to 12. I won't do business with people like that.

I had an F/TR rifle built last year. I ordered an action from Borden. They beat their estimated delivery by over a month. The rifle builder, Precision Rifle and Tool, beat their delivery estimate by right at or slightly over a month.

Neither company made an unreal commitment they couldn't keep. I didn't call either of these businesses after the order was placed to ask them when the product was going to be shipped. They knew what they were doing.

I recently ordered barrels from two different barrel manufacturers. One gave me a shorter lead time than the other. They didn't make their delivery and didn't advise me. The other, Bartlein, gave me a lead time and beat it by 2 weeks. I cancelled the first one. Again, no calls were made to check on progress until I cancelled the late one.

I sent a barrel back to Brux to have it reprofiled. It was back to me in less than two weeks from the time I shipped it. Again, no phone calls were made to ask about progress.

There are people in this industry that get it. These are 4 companies I will support and gladly recommend to someone else. They get it. Plus their products are top of the line.

Dos XX, I agree those Borden's were more than on time last year! My latest Borden BRM I ordered was so fast it was like Christmas again! Jim's got it going on for sure!

Was going to send them a Savage target action for the "tune-up" and target trigger. My gunsmith showed me one that Fred did. Real nice, smooth and with a great trigger. it took way over a year to get back.

That's the problem. The work is great. The business side is hideous. No amount of discussion will change as Fred and Lisa will not change.

Had my own run in with them a few of years ago over a barrel that was'"on the shelf". Six weeks later I recovered the money through my credit card company. Got a call from Lisa about it and she was less than friendly.
About a year later, before PTG started making them, I ordered a Savage bolt head from them. Apparently Lisa remembered me because I got the bolthead in record time. 4 weeks, which was only 3 weeks longer than she promised.

Over at Savage Shooters I did a search for them and found one post that just touches on some of the poor business practices by them.

The Moderators say there is a strict policy against saying anything negative about anyone on the site..even if its Cabelas, Joes Bar or whatever that the site is for learning about Savages and talking about Savages yet I can find negative talk about Kevin Rayhill on there....

This is one of these things I love about Accurate Shooter....This is a site you can go and find out the truth about vendors...sometimes you have to sift through the BS which usually comes out by the end of the topic. If a vendor does indeed have this bad of a reputation then we as paying customers should know about it. I for one would want to know. Im sure most unknowing new customers go to Savage Shooters looking for information on theyre shiny new build just because of the name of the site. When they see not one negative word about Sharp Shooters Supply simply because it gets deleted then to me that is misleading. Just my .02 cents im sorry if I said anything wrong or out of line.

I was looking for a trigger and then read all the negatives about this one. Never replied to her email after that eye opener.

Dickn-

Maybe you should have replied stating that they lost some business due to their business practices. If they got enough of these maybe they would change their tune.

Sad to hear that the rep of the absolute best Savage guy in America has been beat down by their growing too big, too fast and not adapting to the growth that the internet (and Savage Shooters) provided their business.

I have not dealt with them for several years but when I did (several actions and triggers), they were on time and top quality. Spoke with both Fred and Lisa on many occasions and was always overly satisfied with the work. There is a reason that they are backed up for well over a year but it may not be worth it to many folks.

Kevin Rayhall is (was??) another good one for Savages.

Very true statement. Most of us are not 30 years old anymore.

I agree that maybe they should try to address it with their customers, but it's their decision to handle it their way.

NO, this is not them "not adapting to internet times etc"
They lie and promise things then don't deliver. Check the hundreds of threads and the BBB.
When you say its in stock and take my money and I don't receive it cuz you don't ship it then 6 months later I have to get the law involved your just a bad dishonest person. End of story.

i dealt with SSS bought a ground recoil lug from them. It had burrs all around the edges. i was told this was my problem. never dealt with them again. i returned it and lost shipping both ways, terrible company

Somewhere aroud 2002 I met Fred at a fun match and arranged to have him rechamber a retired 6PPC barrel to 6-250. I specified a .265 neck and he said it would be no problem. Took about 2 months longer than promised and in the meantime I, like an idiot, bought 500 pieces of new brass and neck turned it to fit a .265 neck. When I finally got the barrel, I had some problems and did a chamber cast. Turned out to be a .269 neck. .265 was stamped on the chamber end. After many, many calls I finally reached Fred. He pretty much told me "tough $h!t" it's Dave Kiff's fault because he made the reamer.

Many, many years later I bought a Savage with one of his Evolution triggers. The rifle had been send to Fred for his fitting and accurizing. Best I could ever do with that trigger was 8oz. Piece of $h!t. Ayone who chooses to do business with those folks has been warned.

Would not do business with them again either if I were you. Based on what I've read over the last couple of years, don't think that I would either. They WERE the best folks to have anything done on a Savage. Things change.

You mean some one else gets there *** chewed on here besides me ? LOL

Not to worry Dave, you don't have the reputation (questionable at best nowaday) that SSS has and doubt you ever will. You've done right by everyone I've ever spoken to whose been around since Methuselah (that's all us old farts). Can't say the same about SSS whose spoken of as either terrific or simply horrible. And that's an even split nowadays which isn't saying a lot. And anyone who blames poor service on aging isn't being honest and dealing with reality. Aging means making necessary adjustments that includes being honest with clients and not just trying to make a sale to make a buck.

I think his problem is he wont hire machinists because he is one of those guys that doesn't trust anyone to do it.

Hate to disagree, but his problem is LYING to customers as to when they'll get their product and then dragging it out so long as he gets his money up front. Anyway you cut it, that's flat dishonesty (borderline theft by false pretenses), regardless of how good or well intentioned he may be in the long run.
