Stock Tape Removal ?

Is there any special precautions for removing stock tape? Did not see anything in a search. Thanks.

I haven't needed to remove the tape from my gun, but if I did, I'd start by using WD-40. It's probably the best tape remover available that isn't going to damage what the tape is on. (There are a few exceptions) But it certainly isn't going to hurt a fiberglass stock or one that's painted. Put it on the edge and work slowly and adding a bit here and there. I'd use it before heat, even though heat is a good way to remove tape also.

Kemperle general purpose adhesive cleaner
Never had it damage anything and it worked.
No idea what’s on your stock but I’ve used this on some very expensive cars to remove stickers, not without fear, but it never did anything but work.
When your removing some stickers from a McLaren P1 you tend to be nervous.

Not sure what's most common but after trying several different ones, I think the best tapes are the ones that use a silicone based adhesive...fwiw. They hold tight but can be removed where some are damn near impossible to get off without significant risk of damaging the finish....Very significant!

Not calling any names(Jeff!), but I did this stock a while back and posted pics on here. It turned out great! But the owner(Jeff!) bought some cheap tape and really buggered it up...(Jeff!) Lol!

Can you name some examples for those that don't know how to do boolean searches on the interweb?

I wish I could. Not even sure what someone like..well, whats his face that sells it...something rite.....Benchrite maybe. Sorry...My memory is horrible lately. Anyway, I tried several and had a piece of a roll given to me at an industrial supply store nearby that was a silicone based adhesive. I ordered some different tapes from McMaster and the ugly brown teflon silicone adhesive stuff(per mcmaster) was what appeared to be the same as what was given to me. He gave me a piece of a roll that might last for my lifetime. I guess I'll "stick" with it. Lol! It seems to come off good as oppsed to some other stuff that works but sticks like crazy...too crazy.

What about on laminated stocks/finishes??????
I'd stay with the stuff benchrite sells or tape sold as having a silicone adhesive...regardless of the substrate really. It sticks very well to anything I've used it on. I think this is what I use.
It's ugly but works great. Youn can buy powdered teflon and some use powdered carnuba wax on it, but not really necessary. But the texture of this stuff holds onto powders well and it gets slick as owl shit with powdered teflon rubbed into it. @USMCDOC I've given a bunch away to other shooters since I got it.

What product to remove the tape residue, if any??

A long-time shooter at our range gave me a 3" wide roll of PTFE pressure sensitive silicon adhesive tape a while ago. Friend and I have been sharing the same roll for over 5 years now. As Mike mentioned, the pressure sensitive adhesive tape comes off without leaving any residue. If there is any residue, I just wipe it off with some ceramic wax.
