Stock Tape Really Any Different Than Ordinary Tape?

I am ordering a few things and wondered if I should get the Sinclair stock tape for the flat fore-end of my Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist stock. In the catalog photo, it looks like ordinary tape for the most part, but at $9 for enough tape for two rifles, the stuff better be downright magical. My stock has a rough paint finish on it, and need to slide well in any bag up front.

Try a strip of clear self adhesive ContacPaper ® with a coat of carnuba wax. It's easy to find at home supply stores (some dollar stores and some grocery stores) and see how you like it.

I just remembered I have some left over clear plastic material that is used on the front of cars to protect from rock chips. I don't know that it will adhere to the stock finish, but can try. The contact paper is an interesting idea as well.

You can buy the good tape from http://catalog.cshyde.com/viewitems/tapes-with-psa/ries-tapes-with-adhesive-optically-clear-uhmw-tape?
They also have other types and sizes.

One thing that you might want to consider is that some tapes may have an adhesive that is stronger than you might want, and if you remove them, your paint job could suffer. Clear stock tape is generally made from UHMW, is thicker (.005) than "normal" tape and has an adhesive that allows removal without damaging paint. (For removal, the careful use of a hair drier can be help.)

Boyd, Boyd, Boyd, hadn't you rather have this 12"x12" 19-4A-OC-12 x 12 .004" Transparent UHMW-Acrylic Adh .004" 12 Inch $5.15

Than 4-5x5 pieces for $9.00.

Why did you buy a "Rough textured tactical stock" if you planned on shooting with a front rest and bag?

Good question. At the time I got the stock, I wanted to shoot with a bipod and rear squeeze bag. Later on, I learned I would need a heavy rear bag and front rest to do quality load development. The plan is to do the load development, find a good load, and then hone my shooting skills using the bipod and squeeze bag. I have a Protektor rear bag with Sinclair heavy black sand, and will probably get a non-windage Bald Eagle rest or one from Hart.

If my stock can not work on a mechanical rest front bag, I guess I will need to just use some sort of other "bag only" support up front.

Butch Butch Butch ;D,
Obviously I didn't follow your link. To answer your question...of course I would. Thanks

Butch, isnt it cheaper to just buy what you need than have left over for free?LOL I am astonished at the prices they offer.

Because of price, I bought extra. I figured we might have a Prez like Obama and stock tape might take off in price and become unavailable.
If my buddies need tape I can give it to them.

At the bottom, it lists them from good to best for friction coefficient.

TYPICAL PERFORMANCE COMPARISON CHART

Slick Surface Tapes

PTFE Glass Cloth Tape
BEST

Mike, I read it backward. The other research that I read in the past showed it to other way. I wouldn't worry about either.
