Stock Savage sets a record??????

Trying to find the article about the guy that set a long range record with a nearly stock Savage. He had put a Choate Chassis Stock on it and I want to talk to him about that. He may have been from England or Scotland. I think it may have been a 308.

If it is restocked it is no longer a factory gun, plus a trigger change to boot...... jim

your opinion, but if the RULES allow it , it is still in class. this entire thread is mostly a joke as there is no listing of the classification rules and the so called stock rifle lists for about $1600.
someone is trying to make a big deal that a "stock"savage set a record, but in truth ALL rifles in the class are stock, so any maker could set a record with a stock gun.

think CLUB /local MATCHES, NOT national.
I have seen club rules for factory classes with strange exceptions.
tune the trigger or just replace it
bed the action or no bedding
if the report listed is true(who knows) they allow an after market stock and still call it stock.
Factory class allows you to change the stock? Where is this ?.... jim

Since it has been raised, I will beat my drum. Absolutely the stupidest rule with total disregard to safety is when factory class rules allow tampering with a trigger not made for pulls in ounces instead of pounds while forbidding replacing with a trigger designed for what the user is doing with the rifle. Well, as a good friend often says, You can't fix stupid.

David Sharp's 308 Win Factory Savage
with Choate Stock and Vortex Scope
David’s rifle has some upgrades, as permitted for Factory Sporter Class. The Savage trigger was replaced with a Timney. The Savage F-TR stock was replaced with a Choate Varmint stock fitted with a Sinclair front bag-rider. The Choate’s butt was home-modified to better ride the Edgewood bag. The rifle is fitted with a Vortex Golden Eagle 15-60 scope mounted on a 20 MOA Ken Farrell rail via Vortex rings. Dave shoots off a SEB Mini front rest. As the Mini is lighter to lug around than the SEB NEO (and less expensive), the Mini is becoming popular with UK shooters.

David reports: “My rounds are nothing special — I’m using Sierra 2155 155 grain bullets over Vihtavuori N140 powder and CCI 200 primers. I use Lapua brass (large primer) full-length sized in a Redding S bushing die to give 0.002″ neck-tension.”
