Stock options or solutions

I have finally got all the parts for my 30br bench/prone fun gun build, and I am sending it off later this week to my gunsmith.

This rifle isn’t a comp rifle, just wanted to have a rifle built that I can shoot with friends and that is accurate.

I was contemplating putting it in a plain McMillan kestros, but if it’s glued in, I can’t access the trigger hanger screws without milling that pocket out to the point were it would only have about 1/2in of contact with the front of trigger guard effectively removing the second screw hole.

I’ll probably post in the wanted section on here. But any ideas on who makes a stock that has the forend and butt parallel, Like a McMillan kestros? I understand almost all f class stocks are like this, but the kestros seems more compact which I like. Here’s what I’m talking about with the trigger hanger if your curious. Any solutions for this?EB7F068F-DF80-4E63-8E98-3841D61EFA60.jpeg

Thanks fellas.

Hey there Kevin,

For clarification, you are trying to have the capability of removing the trigger hanger (and trigger) without removing the action?

Cheers

agreed, if its not a comp rifle then why glue it
No disrespect meant here. Why do they glue comp rifles? Why rob myself of any potential accuracy improvements just because I’m not competing? I still want to shoot at the highest level I possibly can.

By using glue you ensure it will not move no matter what.. You dont want any movement.
My Kestros however is not a glue in and I feel it shoots just fine. Cleans at 600 fine.

You won’t find many f class rifles if any glued. Tell them that their guns aren’t accurate…
This is a 30br. Not f class. It’s going out 200 yards max. Yes I realize the kestros is for f class. But again, why rob myself of potential accuracy?

And you think an f class gun isn’t accurate at 200? I think these days you would be pleasantly surprised. If you want to build a benchrest accurate 30BR then build a benchrest 30BR. If your building one as a fun gun then definitely would not be considering a glue in.

With the great bedding jobs that you see from Gunsmiths now, I think you would still be ahead of the norm.
IMHO, the only difference between a properly bedded stock and a glue-in is release compound.
In 25+ years of shooting BR in all forms (reasonably successfulIy) I have never owned a glued in rifle.YMMV. I also try and dissuade my clients from doing it. If you do decide on a glue-in make sure it is “glued & screwed” they do come loose!

all my rifles get glued and screwed. I feel like it offers the best of both worlds. If for some reason I need to pull the action from the stock I have pillars to pull it back in if need be. I can also drop the trigger from the bottom.

1. If you are not a top level shooter, you probably can't shoot the difference.
2. If properly bedded, you probably can't shoot the difference.
You brought up the concern and people are giving you a good solution.
But if you feel that if your rifle isn't shooting at the level you want it to,
you'll blame it on not being glued in.
So go ahead and have it done, then you won't have any excuses other than you.

Haha! Exactly what I’m thinking. I know I won’t be able to shoot the difference, but it’ll be in the back of my mind the entire time driving me crazy.
