I just ordered one from him. It'll be a 7 month wait.Jason at x ring
So was the model A.For the last several decades, 6-9 months when ordering barrels and stocks has been the norm. On occasion a manufacturer has a shorter lead time, but its not the norm.......................
I've yet to see a straight composite stock.IF one wants structurally sound dead straight rigid synthetic stocks , You could MAKE them
I've yet to see a straight composite stock.
Mould lines, heat from epoxies curing and tolerances in the mold.
If you know of a perfect process please share this with Our current composite stock manufacturers, at a fee of course.
Doubtful as printing is slow and glass 12 nylon would tend to warp over a longer non structural part .Is anyone 3D printing these?
I appreciate your expertise in aerospace, but equipment and procedures your talking about are above a hobbyists budget and means.Characteristics of composite molding requires knowledge of materials ,as well as exothermic cure compensation . Vacuuming autoclave solves much ,injection molding is more of using particular materials ,which set at lower temps ,so as to minimize heat distortion . Holding longer inside the mold ,water jacketing the mold can also be useful . Precision parts are indeed doable ,I helped put a spaceship into orbit .
It surprises me how people get them to shoot/track as well as they do.Doubtful as printing is slow and glass 12 nylon would tend to warp over a longer non structural part .
For quality repeatable synthetic stocks ,injection molding as McMillan's does is the answer .

Josh finding 1 that is true is the challenge.Good info. I’ve looked at duplicating some different name brand stocks. After measuring and checking for true, most were set aside as “off”. I hand carve my stocks and I can keep them within 1/32” of true. Does any ones rear bag offer more refinement than that? I’ve struggled with the theory of rudders, but I’m left looking at a sand filled leather bag and scratching my head. How do it get better?
Left felling stupid.
