Stock manufacturers.

Last I heard there are 6 barrel manufacturers in WI, and most of them have a 6 month wait.

Terry, you know that Wisconsin has 3 barrel makers also and they are all
6 months plus now.
Good work is taking longer now, including stock makers. Is what it is.
I'll bet your builds are taking longer now cause of the components are taking longer
to receive. Just a snow ball effect.

I got an unpleasant wake up call when I ordered up some standard electrical components this week, some standard parts are out of stock with an expected stock date June 2023 and later.

Six months wait might not be bad.

For the last several decades, 6-9 months when ordering barrels and stocks has been the norm. On occasion a manufacturer has a shorter lead time, but its not the norm.......................

So was the model A.

IF one wants structurally sound dead straight rigid synthetic stocks , You could MAKE them .

IF which I DON'T had MY shop up and functional ,I'd most certainly give it a whirl . I've made stocks for people as well as myself in the past . Being an ex Aerospace composites engineer might give Me an edge Lol . However I've also done Claro Walnut and Boron Carbon Walnut stocks as well .

Total synthetic stocks aren't that difficult , making the molds requires precision either Carbon or Aluminum or higher volume use Steel . Glass filled polymer injected .

I've yet to see a straight composite stock.
Mould lines, heat from epoxies curing and tolerances in the mold.
If you know of a perfect process please share this with Our current composite stock manufacturers, at a fee of course.

Characteristics of composite molding requires knowledge of materials ,as well as exothermic cure compensation . Vacuuming autoclave solves much ,injection molding is more of using particular materials ,which set at lower temps ,so as to minimize heat distortion . Holding longer inside the mold ,water jacketing the mold can also be useful . Precision parts are indeed doable ,I helped put a spaceship into orbit .

I appreciate your expertise in aerospace, but equipment and procedures your talking about are above a hobbyists budget and means.
Doubtful as printing is slow and glass 12 nylon would tend to warp over a longer non structural part .
For quality repeatable synthetic stocks ,injection molding as McMillan's does is the answer .

It surprises me how people get them to shoot/track as well as they do.
I've yet to see 1 that has a flat forend square to the sides.
I'm working on 2 McMillan stocks now, and believe me they took some work. Lol
This is by no means a knock on McMillan, but let's be realistic, we won't even get into the blistering in the gel coat issues.
Check out the toe on this ST1000and the forend on the 1 next to it, identical stocks both with varying amounts of body work to true them up.20220127_173423.jpg
Now I'll be the 1st to admit nothing is perfect including diamonds and show cars, all we can do is strive for excellence.

Good info. I’ve looked at duplicating some different name brand stocks. After measuring and checking for true, most were set aside as “off”. I hand carve my stocks and I can keep them within 1/32” of true. Does any ones rear bag offer more refinement than that? I’ve struggled with the theory of rudders, but I’m left looking at a sand filled leather bag and scratching my head. How do it get better?
Left feeling stupid.

Josh finding 1 that is true is the challenge.
Moulds are only as good as the prototype used to make the mould.
As far as rudders go, I believe rudders and rails are a $50 answer to a $1000 mistake.
If the composite stocks were TRUE Would there be a measurable benefit to rudders and rails??
I'd like to know, aah the way the mind wanders while feeding it fumes.
Now I do appreciate the sex appeal that a rudder/rails brings to a stock, and do understand thier benefit.
