Stock Design

In SA and Namibia most of the F Classers use MBR Tooley stocks or copies thereof. Over the past 2 years most of the guys fitted aluminum rails to the bottom of their stocks riding the rear bag so as to make the rear absolute parallel with the forend. The reasoning is apparently that the stock then rides the bags more smoothly.

I've noticed that McMillan made the front and rear of their F Class stock absolutely parallel, but has not noticed this with any of the other reputable stock makers.

In my opinion this makes the whole set-up more unstable as the rear of the stock balances on the relatively thin rail. I much prefer the design of Jerry/Mysticplayer with his flat 2" rear, which appear to track extremely well.

Do anyone have any opinions regarding the different stock designs???

The guys all use the Protektor Bunny Ear bags.

The "rail" I'm describing is about 5mm in width and rounded at the bottom.

Hope to meet you in Raton!

Sorry, I thought you were talking about something a little wider. This one is 35mm,1.38") wide.

I'll see you in Raton.

This all depends if you want to use your F class rifle in another disipline like Benchrest where i think the width of the flat is only alowed to be 20mm or .75 of an inch may even be smaller not sure on your rules for different longrange benchrest.

I like you design - it appears to my mind that it will greatly enhance tracking and stability. What rear bag do you use?
What is your opinion on a parralel rail, i.e. makng the bottom of the rear 180 degrees parralel to the fore-end?

Bob

I'm shooting F Class. Apparently there is a loophole in F Class Rules and the rear must just not exceed 3 inches.

I'm using a plain rabbit ear rear bag. It sets a little high but not much. I dont know if it makes any difference if its perfectly parallel or has a little slope. I've had good results with MBRs and they have a bit of an angle.
