Sticking cases

but marginally over pressure in Hornady?
They definitely are different capacity internally. They will not behave the same with the same charge of powder. Each needs their own load work up and testing. You cant ever mix brass and expect the same results....or same velocity

If you have identified the issue, I encourage you to elaborate. Others may find this thread and learn from your experience.
UPDATE!

I took the 9 shot brass from last weeks experience. I took cases that were hard to extract and annealed them (first time), then took a sharpie and painted 5 the brass cases completely.

Last night I fired 4 rounds of the Hornady brass that was sticking in the chamber. The first 3 went well, the fourth case I had to hit the bolt to extract out of the chamber. I then chambered a painted round.

After extracting the round (actually it came out easy) inspected the brass and noticed that the neck and shoulder were fin (missing some of the paint).

Fired the remaining painted rounds and they all looked normal marks on the brass where I would expect them to ware off the paint.

I wondered if the sharpie coating was causing the brass to extract easier due to some of the paint transferring to the chamber and giving it some lubrication.

After shooting all test Hornady brass, I then fired 8 rounds of the Starline brass and had no issues.

My conclusions are:
1. Hornady brass is my issue.
2. Annealing the Hornady brass did not help
3. Did not see any strange marks on the painted Hornady brass after firing and extracting.
4. Starline Brass works better in this gun.
5. Getting rid of Hornady brass.

Maybe I just got a tight chamber is the Savage Model 12 FV.

I shoot the Hornady brass in my 6.5 Creed Light gun to use them up.

Thanks for watching... ;-)

I guess Hornady brass will work in my Savage now.

Last week I did more digging into the issue of Hornady brass sticking in my chamber and not ejecting properly.

After comparing the Hornady brass to my Starline brass cases I checked the SAAMI specs for Creedmoor cases. My OAL on the Starline and Hornady brass was the same 1.92". The AOL length for a Creedmoor case 1.92".

So I trimmed the cases down to 1.90" and went to the range last night. After shooting 20 rounds of Hornady brass not a single case stuck in the barrel.

Problem solved.....

Hope this helps someone else out there that may be having a similar issue.

Thanks to all that offered suggestions.

So you trimmed 0.020” off of the cases, and now they work good? You should also check for a carbon ring.
I think he trimmed .002" but the point about carbon definitely applies.
Nevermind. He posted .020". Mia coupa. It's late. Only excuse I have. Definitely a good idea to think about a carbon ring.
