Steel target plates ?

I am thinking of buying a few steel plates for target shooting. Most of my shooting is 300 to 700 yards. With one exception, this is range practice with hunting rifles. If I head on down the road a ways I can get 1000, but I don't shoot much at that distance. So, if you could only afford two or three plates, what sizes should I buy???

I've got a set of these that have been in use for about 2 years, the 1/2" type: http://www.bigdogsteel.com/square-set1.html
They work well!

For size, I think it depends a lot on your backstop. If it is hard to see where the misses land you might want to consider a larger piece of steel.

I have three pieces that are 8" diameter

which is 1 MOA at 800 yards. Depending on where I place them, sometimes it is hard to tell whether the miss was high or low, or left or right. And in those cases, I wish the steel was bigger.
