Building for ranges of 1500 plus only. Not many places I can shoot but
would love to take it to Wyoming and really stretch the distance.
Cheytac makes a solid machined alloy bullet that has a 0.988 BC which is what
I am starting with. It holds the current world record of 3800 yards.
Bought the Stiller Tac 408 1.60 inch single shot action a year ago. Hard to find a barrel but I got
hooked up with Bugholes of Southern Precision Rifles, who lives less than an
hour from me. He ordered the barrel and it took around 3 months. Bartlein
1.450 straight, 36 inch, 15 lb. Will finish 35 inch.
Bugholes had a 375 Cheytac reamer and did the barrel to action fitting.
I talked to Sam Hall and he had a Scoville carbon fiber stock he was willing to
part with. The stock has 6 inch wide forearm and 2.5 inch rear. Barrel channel
is offset to right to account for torque.
The 10.5 inch action was too long for the block. Tracy Milsap, aka Big Bore Bat Shooter,
made a new block for the long action. He is cutting a slot in it for the extra two
inches of action to fit into. Also to help the block hold her, he is milling a slot in
the steel block a recoil lug. Tracy has long range experience with his 338 Improved
and 375 Snipe Tac.
Tracy is building a custom clam shell muzzle brake with 5 vents on each side.
40 MOA Stiller rail came with action.
The first scope to go on it will be my NF ACTAR with 125 MOA built in.
If this does not get me out where I want to be, I have a set of long range
IVEY RINGS that have 150 moa or an adjustable IVEY RAIL that has 150 MOA in
the rail. Barrett 10 / 30 adjustable rings could also be used.
I think the 40 moa rail with 150 in scope with be sufficient.
Barrel 15 lb
Stock 18 lb
Total weight with brake, action, trigger, scope should be 40 plus.
Brake should look like this Kirby Allen Pain Killer brake
Here is the Cheytac 0.988 BC bullet
