Stay At Home Order in California??

Not

Not kidding, Gov Newsom and ordered it, with very few exceptions. I sure hope these people, especially the young one's being brainwashed by him, Biden, Sanders and the rest of the democrats take note of how socialism/communism will work for them, when they vote them into office and/or keep them there. Maybe, just maybe they can see how much freedom they will lose and even take note of how store shelves and supplies will be in short supply and they will lose that also. Even the use of their smartphones and other items they enjoy now, will be lost or restricted. Maybe this is a good thing, as real wake up call, if they will just really take note and see the truth of how government by democrats will be. End of rant.
I would hope they would take heed of all this but I really doubt it someone needs to show them other foreign countries that are similar to our conditions now every day and even then I doubt they would believe it could happen here

Does not hurt to take precautions, like we have been doing with the common cold or other flu virus's, which still cause the death of more people, each year, than this coronavirus does.

Wanna bet? I have $100 that says twice as many Americans die of COVID-19 by Christmas 2020 than have been killed by influenza in any year in the past decade. That would require 122,000 deaths. With only a little over 200 COVID-19 deaths so far in the U.S., you should easily win the bet. Right?

All those not taking this seriously, all those thinking it's not a big deal because they believe more people die in car accidents or from the regular flu, should bear in mind the results of the most extensive study yet undertaken on this pandemic. This is the projected impact of an unchecked COVID-19 pandemic in the UK and the US. The modeling was undertaken by the MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis at Imperial College in London.

The study went on to model the impact of various measures to suppress this unchecked scenario, the measures many of which have been in place in parts of Europe for weeks now and to which you are now protesting.

So what's the predicted death toll of metropolitan areas vs rural?
I can see this running rampant in the cities were population density is greater.
Thankfully I'm in a rural area, and dont get a lot of visitors.
Not much on crowds of people to begin with.

I'm not taking it seriously and I've got a hundo that says I'll be here for Christmas 2020 and beyond.
I also think global warming is a crock.

Spring Breakers and Tourists from everywhere here in FL. Girlfriend hates them. Beaches are closing because none of them abides by the distance rule. What was Mom and Dad thinking when they paid for the kids vacation. Now the kid brings the virus home to them. Natural Selection applies here.

Toby, I'll leave it for you in my estate . We on?

You'll have to give me odds if I have to predict your death specifically. I'm forecasting at least 200,000 COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. by the end of this year, so 1/1750th of the total population. I'm guessing that the average AS member is a male over 60 years old (i.e., higher risk of death from COVID-19), so roughly a 1/1000 chance of dying from COVID-19 if my overall death prediction is correct.

Give me 1:1000 odds, put me down for $100, and send me a notarized copy of your will.:)

PA has closed all but "life-saving" businesses. I am trying darned hard to shift my brain from rural "cold as a witch's !it central NY" where there were more cows and deer than people to Western PA where there are more silicone enhanced Range Rover driving soccer moms than there are birds in the air. We have an aging population, a higher density of Mcmansions and a lot of social interaction, much less self -reliance. The fact is, if you go out here you will likely see or have interaction with 10x as many people and hour here as in CNY. My schools are closed, colleges are closed and Walmart, Lowes and Aldi's are doing a great business. The good side is parents have been forced to return home, take care of and parent their own kids, feed and educate them and this is already causing a reset in the minds of many. On the other hand many people will survive the virus only to be ruined financially as they are up to their armpits in debt.

A few days ago I was part of the "this is a hoax and stupid" group. But seeing the clusters of deaths makes me realize that it is just fine to isolate myself...and the only way to do that here is to stay home...till the "sharing" ends. So I ask myself, is the response worse than the virus?
At the end of the day I had to admit either way it didnt matter...those of us caught in the "panic" or the "virus threat" (perspective) are caught in it. I personally appreciate the fact that I am a little older, a diabetic, and seem to catch every dang bug that passes thru, so I am ok hiding out for a bit.
On the philosophical side, I struggle with the fact that our "free market, independent self-reliant, small government" President has popped open the Roosevelt and Wilson playbook, printed a poop-load of money and is handing out checks like the bank is actually full of gold. In the long run I question the wisdom of this, all the more given the glee shown by the left for these moves. I have pretty much been of the "if the left likes it then the faster I run from it the better" mind for years. We as a people also seem to be right willing to listen to the edicts of the government than suits my independant freedom loving inner voice. But then if the threat is real, it is encouraging that there seems to be a willingness to sacrifice a little as a people to avoid a mass die off.

It is at times like these that deep thought, prayer, wisdom from God and humility will carry the day...both for the nation and for individuals.

And for what its worth, I am more comfortable knowing I have four weeks of food, cash in the safe, enough ammo to last till I am standing hip deep in empty brass, willingness to use it, meds for two months, a trained up "family platoon" who know how to treat injuries and sickness and load a mag as well as empty it, full tanks in every car (thank you Saudi Arabia and Russia for gas under $2) and enough in cans to get me 1000 miles. If only my investments were as safe....
