Static Electricity Effecting my RCBS Powder Funnel.

Dryer sheets are use in the cloths dryers to add fragrance to the cloths. They also reduce static. They are also very good for keeping spiders away. I place them around my boat and I have never had an issue with them. Got to put them where they get in and rub the surface with them but they work wonders.

I have found that much of the time it isn’t the funnel
It the powder that is the problem my drop tube is plastic and my funnel
Both are both black from powder

I never have had a problem with it but my reloading room has hard wood
floors

Maybe but I'm willing to bet it is the fact you live in soggy FL. Try living a mile high in low humidity and it's a whole different world. I reach for a light switch and if my finger comes close to the faceplate screws, I don't need a light, the arc lights up the room.

Carpet
We have the same problem when we turn the heat on
But. It don’t happen where we have wood flooring

I work for a electronic parts distribution company and where having to deal with static is a huge deal. We use static mats that are grounded at all times. Also all the people in the place that touch the parts wear heel grounding straps and if people sit they have to were a wrist strap as well. There are parts of the building where the concrete floor is coated to help as well. We use a spray that can help with and other odd things. Staticide or something like that. A friend of mine was having trouble with a scale varying, so we bought a couple things that go in the outlet to make sure that the outlet is ground and no feed back can get to the scale. He said they work great. I want so say like 25 to 30 bucks each. Stay grounded, and if you want to get more informed look up elector static discharge. (ESD) If you have gotten a shock using your scale that you could feel, thats not a good thing, might be damaged.

Shocking facts about static.....

If you see the spark but don't hear it, a few thousand volts caused it.

If you hear the snap, 20,000 volts or thereabouts were involved.

Current is in microamps or less and usually harmless to humans. But it can damage chips' internals on electronic circuit boards.

Static free workstations, mentioned by Doug30racer, have cured the static problem for some reloaders. They connect people and other things together with grounded wires so static charges don't build up. When they touch, they don't discharge in tiny lightning bolts.

Those tiny lightning bolts were responsible for burning a respected fellow member’s shop down. It wasnt static but a spark from unplugging a scale, but it is a spark all the same.

Sorry not have replied earlier!

Many thanks to you all!

I have washed the funnel in soapy water and dried it. Seems to have worked.

@ Dusty Stevens: Do you simply wipe the static effected item with the dryer sheets?

Yes. And i actually just leave the dryer sheet in my chargemaster

Hi DS

I have just returned from purchasing some Tesco Tumble Dryer Sheets and used one to wipe the funnel. Superb!

Out of interest on behalf of a friend who also uses a Chargemaster, where exactly do you leave the tumble sheet?

Many thanks

Cam

I put a 1/4" steel plate under my electric scale and use the dryer sheets on any plastic powder handling equipment. Ill use a tad of powdered graphite( John Deere abt 4$ for abt qt) to lube the drum on powder measures and just shake out the excess. Then the final cure- a household humidifier. Cuts the static to near nil. helps prevent colds due to dried irritated mucus membranes and keeps your furniture from falling apart every winter. I just hate that zap wen you least expect it. The dogs and cat hate it too.
Just read somewhere that the greatest number of gas station fires are caused by people sliding over their synthetic fabric seats.

The best cure for static is a humidifier (and metal funnels help too). It doesn’t take much humidity to virtually eliminate the static charge. It spikes up immensely as humidity drops. If I recall correctly, 40-50% rh does the job. But don’t quote me on that.
