Starting to load 9mm.

I never thought I would but I’m going to start loading for my 9s. I’ve always used factory rounds because they were so cheap. I’m down to 600 rounds and don’t want to burn them up in practice. I have 1000 plated 124 grain HP on the way. I have plenty of 231, Unique and AutoComp on hand but was wondering what the favorite powders are of guys that reload them.
Thanks in advance.

I have burned up lots of 231 and Unique in 9mm Luger, so you will find you like a load no worries.
If anything, it may take just a little playing with seating depth for your given bullet.
Lately, Titegroup has been fun to play with largely because it has been available.

Same boat....never saw it practical to load bulk pistol and 223 range ammo. I shoot regularly but don't blow through mags like a madman. Just wasn't worth the cost.

Last winter I saw the writing on the wall.

I like 231/hp38 for range ammo. Be-86 gets me full power loads for 9mm and I believe I used it in 40 and 357sig loads.

Nice thing about pistol powder is you can usually find it. Primers could be another story. And if you're paying today's primer prices, it's probably still cheaper to buy ammo unfortunately.

I use Titegroup with all bullet weights. However I prefer 147 gr because they're not as snappy.
I used to use N-320. Surprisingly it meters very consistently for a stick powder and has mild recoil compared to other powders.
Titegroup can be a little dirty when using light loads.

Since I don't clean my pistols very often, I find loads close to max cycle better when pistols are caked with filth. I usually clean them every 1,000 rounds and sometimes I lube the slide rails every 500 rounds.

Autocomp, w231 and unique.....
I run a lot of Nosler Sporting Handgun bullets, 115 gr and 124 gr. They are accurate, feed flawlessly in both my 9s and work for defence loads.

When starting on loading for the 9mm I would suggest you go for the slower burn rate powders and load long. Minimizes the impact if you encounter any setback. Been shooting rifles mostly for the last 10+ years, but here was what I used when I loaded more for handguns.

I was at Gun Fair yesterday, 9mm ball 17.99/50. Cheaper as you up the volume/reduce the packaging. Hard to reload at that price with jacketed bullets. I have been reloading 9mm, Autocomp and Hp38 has worked well. I have been loading at +p with 115,124 xtp(not practice ammo).
