Starting to get this 20 VarTarg brass prep @ loads figured out.

So, I am working with the CZ 527 action. Went with a Pacnor, 24" Varmint contour, chambered & drop in with a 1in 11 twist 3 groove barrel.

Learned a few lessons along the way so far & sure I'll learn a few more as I go.

Tonight I made it out for a initial firing with 50 pieces of Nosler 221 FB brass. Went with 32gr V-Max over a near upper end load of A2200 19.2 gr. I haven't been a BR kind of a guy, so it don't take a whole lot to impress me. Suppose I may get even better, yet though I was pleased with a few .5 MOA 100 yard 5 shot groups in the bullseye. Putting a smile on my face.

Minimal barrel heat & low recoil ,has been rather impressive to me as well.

did you chronograph that load? it's seams a little on the light side to me. I load for 6 vartargs and my loads run 20.0, 20.2, 20.3 and one at 21.4 of 2200, 32 vmax
 
Agree with the advice from chuckshooter above.

I've found that although A2200 gives excellent accuracy in the FB case, in both the 221FB and the 20VT, RL-7 will give the same or better accuracy with about 200 - 300 fps boost with similar powder charges.

In the 20VT:



A2200 is no slouch when used in the 221 Furball or the 20VT, just as accurate, just a tad slower by about 200 fps:



If no other powder choices were available to us, these two would be all we'd need for the FB case.
 
All I can add is burn what ya got. 8208,H322,H4198 and several others are hard to find if not unobtainable for several years.
I am using Data2200 from 20+ years ago in 17FB and 20VT, my loads are lower than my buddies with some new AA2200. When this is gone I am going back to some other powders I have that their is some data for the 221. I am not going to be the dog chasing a shiny hubcap.
FWIW if you have other powders try them. I am all but out of the three I mentioned along with R7 as well. If I get a new powder or anymore, it will be VV on the label.
 
AA2200 can get dirty if you dont run it towards the top like the 20.1- 20.5 range with 32-35 grain bullets
 
Seems she may only get better. Today I was attempting to work up loads with 39 BK & 34 gr Dogtown's over H4198. Checking velocity & ES with a magneto speed on the barrel. While both shot rather well, The Dogtowns were the surprise. Only shooting 3 shot strings to get a idea on ES. ES was fairly wide until I hit 18 grains which was as high as I went w the fire forming load. (3473, 3473 & 3474) .4" group.

Ended up putting few more rounds together with the Dogtowns over 18 grains to try without the magneto speed, attached to the barrel. Consistency on paper fell off some with the fire forming load w no magneto speed. .550" 5 shot group for this rig & the Dogtowns may be rather satisfying.

Tried same load in once fired brass & was .675 at best. For me, this is exceptional shooting. Todays results led to big smile & hopes for even better stuff to come.

Thinking I need to get a suppressor coming for this one.
 
Do you have any pics of the barrel and rifle? Getting ready to send my 527 varmint in 204r to them

Loose the magspeed when working up/on loads..
The wt of it will cause, as you know , barrel harmonic changes..
Giving false groups, ….. same with a suppressor- it should be in will working up loads..
I only used mine- after I found a great load that printed extremely small…

I installed my suppressor, and used the lab radar, to avoid harmonic change , since it stays on it 100% time. ;)

Guess I have been on the more conservative side with this one. I see a lot of folks have been shooting stiffer loads than say, recommended per Hodgdon / Ramshot 20 VT load data. I have minimal desire to push the velocity on this one. More so, thinking on a good accurate load & exceptional barrel life.

Yea I have been wrestling with the load work up & velocity consistency along with just tracking the velocity. & yes, the harmonics & POI can or will change dramatically with the added weight.

Any of the Radar type chronographs working with the 20 cal bullets?

Do I understand, you have had success with using the Lab Radar on 20 cal bullets along with the Andyscan & Garmin?

Last I was aware the Lab was limited to 22 cal.

If I understand this right a Garmin may be in my future.
