Starting Data Needed 6.5x47 Lapua w/ VARGET

Hello All, I've been browsing the forums here for sometime, great site and great guys. I am in need of some starting data for the 6.5x47 Lapua using Varget. I've been using RL15 with good results, but VARGET will cover every cartridge I load, so I'm trying to streamline my component needs a little bit. Thanks for the help!

Thanks, shcal.

Shcal,

My best, most accurate) load with Varget is at 37.8 and with RE-15 it is 38.0g. Both are with CCI450s.

I would start about 36.5 or 37 and work up as these are both near the top of what my rig can take. Panda F-class with 8 twist Krieger.

I asked Darrell Jones about using Varget as well for the 6.5x47 because I use that powder for my Palma loads. He tried it with the Sierra 123's and said that his best was 41 gr, but that this was a HOT load and you will need to start lower.

My best load, as the article notes, is with H4350 and based upon the results, I'm not going to be changing any time soon. The other thing is that Varget is very inconsistent from lot to lot. I had to back off my Palma load by 0.5 gr to get it back to an acceptable pressure and ES/SD with this latest lot. My H4350 on the other hand has been super consistent lot to lot with no change noted.

All the shooters in the 600 yd benchrest game seem to favour RL15 so that too might be a good place to start.

Good luck and definitely try the Berger 130 VLDs. They are awesomely accurate and seem to do an excellent job in bucking the wind at long range. I think it is the ideal bullet for the 6.5x47.
