Starting at the beginning which 6mm bullet

I am planning on doing a dasher. I have no obligation to specific bullets. What would be the best bullet to start with for 500-600 yard shooting? 107, 110 matchkings ? Berger 105 or 108?
How the heck does one decide where to begin?
Thanks

First I would rethink the Dasher, I would go for a 6Br. imp. So easy to make great case easy, and being your first time go with a tight no turn then skim turn them to be uniform. I hate to say but the bullets would be Barts 105 you don't save anything with factory bullets with the variations lot to lot. You wear out a good barrel trying to make a lot shoot that won't...... been there and done that.
I did well with a Dasher but it is hard to make good cases and a lot of work, blow length must be the same, or at least close. If they don't make 1.550 by the second firing I toss them. The BR imp. makes them the first time every time, if you are careful..... and they shoot as good or better with less powder at the same useful velocity..... jim

Depends upon what type of shooting you're planning on doing. Your choice might be as simple as what bullet is readily available that will do the job reasonably well.

Are the Norma Dasher cases a good option?

I can't really give you a good answer on the Norma but Lapua brass that I set the records with are still shooting after I used them over a 100 firings. Norma Dasher is not in the same ball park...... jim

I started with the 105 bergers. Learned enough to start screwing with stuff !
I heard the 108 was better quality.
I believe Berger moved it's shop or something like that. Might have n been the reason qc fell some.
The 105s were all over the place in lengths and weights compared to the 108's.

I say shoot what the ppl you're learning from shoot. Make their learning curve help you. I've got 4 guys that I listen when they talk then I ask questions....
Tight lipped «`°%¡**~ ..lol !

I’ve had some great results with 107 Sierras in Dasher and BR, also the Berger 105 Hunting has and is currently shooting well for me in a BRA.. Havnt shot the 108s but hear there easy to tune...I doubt you’ll go to far wrong with any of the bullets you’ve mentioned. The Sierras did sort better for me BTO over the 105vlds..

What twist? Probably the two easiest to work with are the 107 Sierra and the 108 Berger. The 110 Sierra is a great bullet but in general needs at least a 7.5".

Berger 108 grains was my go bullet for 6 BR/Dasher. As they are scarse now, I tried Berger 105 BT/ Berger 105 hybrid and Sierra 95 grains with no luck. Wasted a lot of bullets/barrel life.
When I got my hands on BIB 108 grains(now I believe the weight is 104 grains) all changed.

First 3 groups of 5 shots , with difference in seating, printed less than 1/3 MOA at 100 meters.

For the shooting you describe, which sounds like for fun or maybe groundhog score shoots, start with Berger 108. Really easy to tune. If you are trying to set records at 1000, go with custom bullets. I started with a Dasher and went back to straight 6br to save time and aggravation. I shoot 100 to 600 at groundhog shoots mostly.

Do not understand why no one mentions the 105 Scenars. Are extremely uniform and shooting very tight groups in new Masterpeace Arms Origen action and 30 Bartlein barrel, 600 yards. Almost no run out, new Norma brass, 272 neck. 32 Varget.

Darin,

Thanks for the info. These just may be a hidden gem as they just revised their pricing to be more in line with or better than Berger. May need to get some for myself.:D:D

Just checked 105 JLK's are 38.00 per 100. I believe I will be trying some of these. Shot them many years ago and they shot with the best of them. Just another option to consider.:D:D:cool:

A few years back I picked up 100 of the 105 Scenars to try. Measured them and wasn't impressed so they were used for fire forming. If the bullets they make now are more consistent I'll give them a try.

Please post some pics of targets shot during testing or give us some data to make a determination.

Thanks and good shooting.

rumor has it right!! I had about 60-70 from a sample lot and started separating them. I had several lots of varying dimensions within the 60, did not make me happy. I used them at a practice match at 600 and out of like 5 groups 3 of the groups had 4 shots in 3/4". this is after segregation. I loved the way they shot!! I just got 1k of them, all the same lot, and started measuring and weighing for segregation. after about 20 of them I stopped. there was less than +- .1 gr weight difference, bto was less than +- .001, bearing surface was identical and oal were great as well. these measure out great and i will be shooting them in this weekends match. we just had a practice match and I shot a 1.73" 5 shot at 656 yards, a personal best. this was with the jlk's I just got. all this is with basically no load development. I seated them where my hybrids were happy and with the same powder charge, I haven't tested them at all for development.. ill let you know after the match this weekend how they do then. good luck and ill be in touch. bryant.
