stainless barrel with non-stainless action

Nope! - other than aesthetic reasons.

I have two and they work just fine. I also like the look of the blued receiver and the matte finish stainless barrel.

When you outshoot the guy at the bench next to you, "he" might have an issue with it! ;) Other than that, no issues that I know of. Seems like some of the mfgs. built some that way?

:)

When you take the barrel out of the action, is there any unusual powdering or corrosion on the threads? I am not expecting any electrolytic activity between these two metals, but not being a metallurgist, just thought I would check.

There should be no corrosion between the stainless barrel and action just be sure to use some kind of lubricant on the threads before you put it together the first time. I use anti-seize that you can get at an auto supply shop. I've never had trouble removing a barrel that I put anti seize on.

Not only is it OK, but from a galling standpoint, it's preffered. A stainless barrel is more likely to gall on a stainless action with a tight thread fit or too little anti-sieze.

I rather like my fluted SS Pac-Nor barrel on my old Remington 700 ADL blued action set in an H-S Precision Varming stock.

and my other .17 Remington 700 BDL blued action with a fluted SS Lilja barrel set in an H-S Precision thumbhole stock doesn't look too bad either,IMHO).

I have a Factory Win Heavy Varmint, and a Coyote that are both blued,or black) action with stainless barrels. I like them so much that I dont even bother trying to find a stainless action cause the two kinda highlight each other per say. I have built a Rem 700 blued with Shaw SS fluted barrel, looks good, also a Charles daily 260 Rem with stainless fluted barrel that has been bead blasted and it looks great.
