Squirrel Shootin'

Here's a little video of a nice spring day from last year. Most shots are between 150-200 yards. We're shooting stock savages in 204 (12VLP) and 223 (10PC). I've got some more footage that I need to compile from this year. We like to get out a few times a year between the close of upland bird season and when the snakes come out. Sorry, call me an old fogey, I got less than halfway through the video. The music, if it qualifies to be called such, sux. Then again I sometimes have the same reaction to Pursuit channel shows.

appreciate the inclusion of missed shots...but have to agree that the soundtrack turned me off by the 6th word...so I turned it down. Maybe no music? Or some classical? Might play well with a little Brahms

Agreed.

Saw way too many homemade videos using that "song" while in the military.

It didn't play well then even with images of big bombs being dropped and missiles impacting; it certainly is a bit of overkill with ground squirrels.

Excellent selection Maestro.

PS: By far the best music to any video especially hunting has got to be Yakety Sak.

good video, but have to agree on the music choice. Never made a video so guess it's pretty hard to match the music to the subject matter. LOL

Got out about a week and half ago. Pretty shoddy shooting, my buddy never could figure out what was going on and it took me a few to warmed up. We're new to this so I imagine there will be days like this until we get in more practice, learn to handload, etc. Oh well, a good time was had by all...except the vermin...

Definitely the most spectacular hit to date. That little 204 pill can result in some quality squirrel gymnastics.

Far better to hear the crack of the shot and a little recoil than to be sitting here watching this video. But well done my friend! Keep up the good work. It's good to see someone is out there getting it done.

Good shooting from here.

Steve Murphy

Sure miss woodchuck hunting in Pa. now. Near 20 years in Florida now with literally no shooting varmints or even hunting anything here.

You've got to be kidding! No season, no limit, no restriction on method of take, and pretty good eating if you shoot a sow or young 'un.

Toby... do not want to take over this post.

Never, never, never found a place where I was welcome to hunt in Florida. The land is mostly all private with a couple public exceptions. Those exceptions require, Like Duette Park and Avon Park, tests and lots of money to participate in what seems to be a crowded, controlled opportunity on certain days only.

There are hog hunts available at a pretty expensive rate for one shot. I like to shoot. To have to gut, haul, skin and butcher a hog after one shot is not high on my list unless I really wanted the meat. I want to shoot, not take a shot and then work for the next couple days.

Lots of NF land with high hog populations, and it's perfectly legal to leave dead hogs for the vultures.
