New Pup and a Holiday Squirrel

Mark
For gun shy training of the new young nub use your PCP without the brake installed when she's eating. It will give a nice loud report, similar to a starting pistol. You can dry fire your PCP, just make sure it's got air in it. Aim away for a while then move to more overhead. Then on to using it outside during fun activities. I failed to train one of my Labs. July 4th and New Years Eve when the fireworks started, she would run and hide behind my the headboard on my bed. I had to get "Doggie downer" pills from my vet.

Thanks, Mike! We have actually been working on that already. I started with my PCP as you suggested and then we graduated to a 22 revolver with shorts, which wasn’t much louder and then we switched to subsonic ammo. I’ve been walking about 15-20 yards away from her and discharging a round into the ground, in the other direction of course. I will then call her over and give her a treat and praise her for a bit. So far she doesn’t seem phased by the sound. I’m going to keep it up until she passes the fear stage that a lot of pups hit between 4-6 months of age.
