Springfield Armory Customer service

Last week, I was shooting my Springfield Armory EMP 9mm pistol. It has become one of my favorite carry pistols. The pistol is a 1911 format but with a guide rod that has a captive spring. The take-down procedure requires a small plastic piece (supplied) to be placed over the guide rod when the spring is compressed. I took the pistol down, as usual, but did not get the “piece” to stay on the rod under spring pressure. It went flying off into the nether regions of my cluttered workshop!

What’s a guy to do?

I got on Springfield Armory’s website and went to customer service. Admitting my error, I asked to “buy” a couple of the elusive “take-down” pieces.

That same morning, I got an e-mail response from SA, saying, “It has been sent”.

Today, I found an envelope in the mail from SA, with two of the takedown pieces enclosed. The pistol only came with one. This is outstanding customer service, in my opinion. They are likely anticipating that I might lose another one! This was at no charge.

Kudos to Springfield Armory Customer Service.

To save yourself some grief get some large plastic bags and diassemble your pistol in it.
Save parts from going to the same place socks go to in the dryer.
just a helpful hint.
I've never lost a part but people have told me stuff.:D

Thats a poor design if you have to use them to take it down. I guess its not really military designed. And i am a springfield fan. I know a lot of custom 1911 guys (the 2 here in arkansas in particular) will only use a colt or springfield frame to build a customer supplied factory pistol into a custom so thats saying a lot. They wont even entertain using your kimber or ruger 1911 parts

+1 on the Colt and Springfield 1911 frames. Haven't met up with any 'surpises' from either of those, yet,,,,,,,,, unlike some of the other makes I've encountered.

My experience with SA's customer service was phenomenal, as well. The best I've ever experienced. They are prompt, they check with you and keep you informed every step of the way if your firearm was sent back for work and they call you to tell you when it has shipped. Kudos to SA!

I watched a buddy do that one time, using a large cardboard box, when disassembling a Ruger Mark II pistol (22 LR type).

Yep, it contained all of the parts. :)

Nope, he never did get it back together.

That's why you use a zip-lock bag! It's easier to carry to the gunsmith than a box is! 'Bout 10-15yrs ago I started charging 'extra' for those zip-lock bag guns. Just another case of "educating them through their wallet!".

When I retired , the first time , the frame that was good to build on was the Chinese Norinco . I know it's not anailable anymore and compared to today's manuf tolerances , it's not even in the ball park .
I still have a box of military 779 or something like that , military 45 slides used for comp pistols .

We cant have norinco anymore because of clinton. I wonder just how many lives they saved by keeping those guns out of our hands?
