Springer Airgun vs Groundhogs

That's a pretty spicy springer @750 fps. My 60's vintage BSA Meteor .22 springer only gets to 370 fps avg. It will take a squirrel or rabbit but not at the range you are able to.

The final touch to making this a good rifle was the addition of the tuner on the end of the barrel. It cut the group's in half. At 25 yds it's a 1/4 inch gun on average.

This is number 3 with the Diana 54 in .22. 15.89gr JSB exact at 750 fps. This was 20 yards, longest was 63.View attachment 1563785
I have the exact same rifle, inherited from a family member. Fantabulously accurate with irons. But would prefer to use optics for critter elimination. Please tell me about your scope and ring/base set up. Ditto for the tuner.
My concern is that the forward spring action will damage the scope, or so I have been told.
Thanks in advance.

All my springer scope are Sightron STacs 4x20x50 moa with a small dot. All in Burris rings with inserts. I like my face off the stock so I use high rings. I was schooled the scope damage is more from the vibration involed than the bang. The plastic inserts evidently mitigate the vibration. I have close 2000 rounds on this Diana54 with out problems. I have shot 5 shot groups under 1.5 at 100 yards with it. No I would not take a 100 shot at a ground hog. 75.......ok. Sightron has a great Veterans program, just call them then send a copy of your DD214, 35% off MSRP.

My BSA springer has destroyed 2 Bushnell scopes. Long time ago and not the best by today's standards, but I gave up and stayed with the iron sights.

I will check out those Burris rings and bases then. 2K without damage is reassuring. Thanks!
