spotting scope

Are there any good spotting scopes in the $3-$500 range for viewing targets from 50-300 yards?
I have a Celestron 65x and I am not happy with it, it always seems to have a blank spot just below center of target.

I have this one for F-class scoring out to 1000yds. I bought it as "a cheap scope that I'll let anyone use and I don't care if it gets abused". I paid slightly less on special a couple of years ago. I have actually used it in an F-class match as my mirage scope while shooting and it performs well above the price range...surprisingly! No reasonable priced scope will resolve smaller caliber bullet holes well at 300yds in heavy mirage if the groups are tight even with good contrasting targets but this one does pretty good for the price in fair conditions.

I'm using the Celestron C70 Mini Mak, so i'm under your price range.
Heavy mirage not favorable at 300 + yards for .224 caliber holes.
1,200 yards count the points on a buck, yes!

Athlon makes an Ares 15-45x65 UHD in either angled or straight body. The MAP on these is $599. I don't have any personal experience with the Ares line of spotters, but have read so many positive reviews online that compare them favorably to Athlon's top tier Cronus scopes, I'm pretty sure the Ares would be a very good scope. I've got Cronus tactical 7-42x60 & 20-60x86 that have ED objectives and are very good spotters, but they're priced well over your stated budget.

Have you upgraded to a Bader eyepiece? I am told it makes a world of difference
