I had acquired a nice Celestron Regal ED 80 mm spotting scope with LER from the estate of a shooting friend a few years back. I do not baby my equipment but I do not abuse it either. Last week, the eyepiece mounting ring became separated from the inside of the scope body... I contacted Celestron and asked if they would repair it. They replied - no since I was not the original owner of the scope, no warranty.... I asked how about a non warranty repair? No dice.
Hoping I was not out $850 for a new scope, I started looking around using my Google Foo and found a couple of places in the UK that did scope repair and Mountain Optics in California.
I emailed a request and some photos of the damage to the scope to Mountain Optics and I received a phone call from Erik shortly after. They are estimating that they can fully disassemble the scope, clean all optical components, repair the mounting ring with epoxy permanent fix while maintaining functionality of the eyepiece and nitrogen purge and reseal for under $300. He indicated his is a common defect with this type of scope.
I am shipping it tomorrow.
Anyone have experience with this shop?
