SPLIT OR DEBRIS

Getting ready for this weekend's shoot and noticed this on my Lapua 6 (BR) 20250729_214043.jpgdasher brass. At first I thought I was getting splits on the shoulders of a bunch of my brass. 6 or 7 firings and they have been annealed 4 times. Then I noticed that the "splits" looked EXACTLY the same on a bunch of brass, and another bunch had a different identical split!

My guess is that there was a single piece of brass brush stuck in the neck, as there isn't a single piece of brass that has any type of burn mark, or are burned through and the marks are not very deep.

Anyone think there will be any issue shooting these?

Thanks,
Tod

Even these photos are good enough to say you had some debris stuck in the chamber when you fired these.
Did you scope that chamber and make sure the debris is gone?

I would shoot those if I had to. Let's see what the defect looks like after another test cycle. Good Luck with your match and in for the range report.

I have some bullets that have media in the meplat. Some cases have dents in the shoulder after some got in the chamber during a target. I had hard bolt lift on em.

I ALWAYS use a 40cal mop to clean out the bore after cleaning the barrel. I don't clean behind the lugs as much, my short lug cleaner sits with a 40 mop waiting for this last step.
(Patch over the mop helps it last longer)

Stainless steel cleaning pin stuck in chamber? Looks too big to be from a bore brush.
I don't use SS. I use old fashioned corn cob grit.

I'll find time to scope the chamber. After I clean the bore, I ALWAYS clean the chamber using bore mops with patches wrapped on them and finish with one soaked in brake cleaner in the chamber..

My 358 Norma did that to brass a few years back. The brush bristle, or maybe it was a brass shaving from the belt, was stuck pretty good to the chamber & needed to use a small pick to loosen it. After 2 or 3 more firings, I lost the whole box of 20 to cracks where the mark was. YMMV.
