Sphur scope mounts

After reading an article on Precisionrifleblog.com I thought I would try one and started searching for a used one. I like it enough that I bought two more since then. If you watch eBay, gunbroker and the such. You find them for 250.00, I've never paid over 275.00. They are bigger but not as bulky as they may look. The machining is top tier and they are well thought out. I have no regrets and nothing but compliments for the product.

Pricey. Available for almost every scope 1" 30 34 35mm MOA 0 to 40 Vast options for height. Built in level even though small and hard to see. Optional mounting options to rings themselves for accessories. Did I mention very pricey. I use a 0 moa with 1.26 in 34 mm for my ELR rifle to mount my S&B scope in. I've shot it for a year now, no complaints.

Given that mounts half as pricey (or less) do the same job to perfection, I'm not sure how they're justifiable.

I too have entertained the idea of getting a Sphur. It just doesn't seem worth it to me. I have a friend that switched back to rings after having them for a season and he said it was heavy and not really worth the bucks. I also know a builder and shop owner that had a defective one that gave him headaches before he figured out the mount was the issue. These are just samples and no product is perfect, Spuhr included. I just don't see the benefit over rings/mounts like badger/seekins/ect. I think if they were 1/2 or 2/3rds the price I would own one or 2. Just my opinion...
