Groundhog was laying Flat as a Pancake on the Rock sun bathing!

25 gr Woodchuck Den Boattail at 3520 fps ended that for her!

Nice evening hunt we shot 4 for the day and 3 of them this evening at 102, 172, and 216 yards.

Thanks for sharing you and your brothers hunt. As always great pictures of scenery and rifles with varmints taken in the field. Todd sure made some great 17 caliber bullets. I liked em all 23,25,27,29 and of course the 30 Gold. Do you remember his 25.5 grain low drag modeled after the 6mm Berger 88 low drag. Dan C and I shot a few at pds in Wyoming from a 17 Javelina, they were great as well and very flat shooting.

Hilllbilly, I read "Virginia" and "Rockchuck" and thought WTH, there's no rockchucks back there, then I saw your pic. It shows a chuck on a rock, so sure, I suppose it does qualify as a rockchuck! Rock + Chuck = Rockchuck. Who knew? :)

Just shows we can't be too hasty to judge, as one never knows what may turn up in the wild. ;)

How steady is your tripod ?
Just to add a little comment to encourage you to give it a try some time.

A good tripod with a good ball head set-up, is definitely something to try if you walk to take a stand while varmint or predator hunting.

All methods have trade-offs where the situation gives one method or the other an advantage, but in many situations a good tripod set-up is worth the weight to hump it to a stand. YMMV
