I am selling a super-nice SB lathe. It has very little wear on the ways, runs quiet, overall is just a gem. It has the 4 ft bed so you’ll get something like 30” btw centers.
Gears are crisp without any damage/chipped edges. I re-shimmed the headstock bearings per SB instructions to bring it back int specs for precision work so it’s like new regarding that. Comes with:
Original 4-jaw chuck
3-jaw buck chuck available for extra $.)
Two live centers
Collet closure
Taper attachment
Aloris-style tool posts and a few tool holders
220 1-ph to 3 ph VFD phase converter

I looked for almost a decade to find one this clean/new-ish and I haven’t seen many since in this shape. I’m in central TX.
$3850 for all.

I have one in the basement where they broke the back gear on a brand new lathe. They put it in the corner of the the plant in Philadelphia Pa., it had lots of dust on it when I purchased it. I installed a brand new back gear from SB and she is like brand new. I did have an offer for $5,000.00 that I turned down.
I have had some gunsmiths chamber some barrels on this lathe and they said they have more run out with their lathe then they do with this South Bend Heavy 10.
A good South Bend Heavy 10 is really hard to find.
Good Luck with your sale!!!

Exactly which south bend would this be.
9 or 10, heavy 10?
I’m not familiar with all the models but am interested in getting a second lathe so I can keep my TBAS permanently on my current lathe

These are a good lathe and cut very smooth with the belt drive. I work right down the road from the old South Bend Lathe Works on Sample St. It was not that long ago this town actually had a fair amount of manufacturing in it.

I’m in Waco TX.
The chuck is a Sanou (Chinese) and I prefer to keep it. I’ll consider selling though if someone buys the lathe and feels the really need this. There are more affordable options for a scroll chuck if one doesn’t need the adjustable feature.

That is a very nice 10L. Has the toggle clutch, taper attachment, and presumably a hardened bed (typically an X in the serial number on the right end of the lathe).

Although it has a threaded spindle, it is a very desirable lathe to do chambering through the headstock on.
