Yeah, I go to a local guy who will custom make any box in any shape I want. Costs a little more than a box from a store but not much. If the LGS does not have boxes that I can ship a firearm in I go to this guy. I always box the factory box with protection around the factory box.

I didn’t know there were places that made custom boxes. I worked in a box factory for a while in my early twenties. Over the years I’ve made and modified many boxes when I didn’t have what I needed.

I too recommend Uline if you are shipping in volume. Huge selection of sizes. But if you ship here and there... Amazon, UPS or other sources.
For full rifle, and this may not be for everyone, but I have shipped rifles taken down to stock, barrel, action and all support pieces into a 36x6x6 box. To me, this nds to avoid (most) shipping hazards.

I've seen Uline shipping be as much as the boxes.
I buy off Amazon.
I will give Uline some credit as they seem to be a heavier constructed box

The Uline boxes are better quality but you are not wrong about the shipping. It hurts my feelings every time.

I get boxes from the USPS. Check the web site. The only thing is if you order one box that means you will get twenty Five. per order of one. They are all free. Takes about three days for them to show up.. Tommy Mc

You know what helped me out a lot with boxes, was a YouTube video on how to make boxes. There are actually a number of them. They take you through how to measure your object, then build a box that fits perfect from another box. So I gathered a number of very large cardboard boxes and just cut the size out I need, when there is not an available Amazon box. This has really paid off, I don’t have to buy boxes anymore, I just grab large boxes from behind stores before they press them all together in the machine.

Heavy truck dealers, heavy truck accessory (chrome) shops, heavy equipt dealers like Cat, Cummins, are a good source. Bug deflector boxes are good for guns, bug screen boxes, filter boxes, and ususlly a good selection of small boxes of all sizes, can also be a good source for anti static bags to make fly tying materials.
