It sure has been an exciting year for him. We told him if he got straight "A's" in school he could have Buck Fever and last Mon,Tue,Wed for the WV gun season. He made the honor role for the first time but didn't get all A's. Wife and I talked it over and said he could have Buck Fever on Monday. We hunted sun up to sun down on Nov 22 for the Ohio youth season. Saw one doe at 4:40 PM. :((: It started to rain around 7 AM and it was 25 degrees out!!!!
Drove to our WV property on Sunday and heading into the woods at 6:20 AM Monday morning. Crazy weather 60 degrees and winds blowing 20-30 MPH and gusts to 50 MPH. We came down out of our swaying tree stand at 10:30 AM and after seeing limbs falling and a couple trees blowing over we stayed out of the woods the rest of the day. After lunch we sat along a fence watching a field that is 230 yds long. 4:45 PM a doe hops over fence onto our property and walks towards us. Brandon couldn't make up his mind if he wanted to shoot her or not but this was the only deer we had seen all day. I must have heard come on 8 point 30 times on Monday referring to the 8 point buck that walked in on us after he shot his first doe. After thinking about it for 5 minutes, he said I'm going to shoot her. OK she's at 150 yds hold just behind shoulder. We found her 30 yds from where he shot her and Brandon said , Hey Dad I'm liking this rifle.

We went back down Thanksgiving night and hunted Fri and Sat and its the fewest deer I have ever seen. Not sure if its because of coyotes, pipeline construction or the WV Hitman. :)):
It was amazing the tissue damage the Nosler 100 gr BT @ 2750 fps did on the off shoulder.

Goooood going for him. Every deer is a trophy to me. Could you post a picture of the cartridge?

Should have mentioned this is Brandon's first year deer hunting

257 JDJ is on the left, 225 necked up to 257.
309 JDJ on the right. 444 Marlin necked down to 308. I hunt with 14 in Contender chamber in it. 165 BT @ 2325 FPS

I also have a 14 inch Contender barrel chamber in 257 JDJ. Shot this 100 yd group when we were sighting in this year. Should have stopped at 3 shots. Yep 4'th shot ruined the group

Thank you for posting such nice clear pics of the cartridges for me to see what it came from. Make sure you tell your son, job well done. It warms my heart to see a newer generation getting into the hunting and shooting sports.

Awesome job! When it comes off the BBQ he won't care it didn't have horns. Give that boy a big pat on the back.
