Got back to the wet side of Washington from my whitetail hunting trip to Wisconsin. Ranks right up there with the worst season I've had in my home state. Because of CWD in a neighboring county, baiting was banned. The bigger bucks and most of this years fawns got wiped out by a March weather event. Weather sucked. Highs in the 60s and one day set a new record at 70. Not good for the rut. I decided to eat my doe tags, the herd needs help. If I had shot a doe, could have taken out 3 deer from next years population. (doe has twins in the spring)
I showed pictures of Barbie in the trail cam thread. I've owned this house for 35 years and just recently there are enough deer here for me to shoot one. I saved some apples from my tree and was gonna put them out today and monitor with a trail cam. Archery season opened yesterday. I'm sitting on the couch watching the Packer game and they are actually winning and a tree falls down just off my front lawn. Turns out, it's dead firewood tree I didn't know I had. I need firewood. About 15 minutes later, my driveway alarm goes off. I stand up to look out my front picture window and here comes four blacktails. I know where they will go, so after a clusterfrick, I manage to get the Xbow cranked up and ready. Luckily, it was one of the few items I had brought in from my truck. I slowly slide the door open leading to my back deck. The deer just started to appear as they walked past my house to my left. Looked like a mama with two fawns and a slightly larger young deer. Didn't want to shoot the mom so I ran a sharp stick through the slightly larger young one. May not seem like much to some but, I'm as happy with this archery deer as the one in the last pic I shot about 10 years ago with my compound.
