LUCKY

Browsing through a gun show last Sunday I came across a Martini chambered in 30-40 Krag. A weakness of mine is a love for single shot rifles. I bought the rifle and promptly took it apart as I've never owned and examined one of these. The action has no trace of bluing and a lightly pitted surface. the barrel is SS 26 3/8" long and tapers from 1.235" to .825". My intentions are to cast .30cal bullets add gas checks and load with Swiss 1 1/2 and/or Trail Boss just to see how it shoots. I ordered a set of dies from Buffalo Arms and then set out to locate some brass. On my way to the local range Tuesday I stopped by a friends business to chat about my new rifle and another worker overheard my conversation rummaged through his desk and handed me a box of Winchester 30-40 Krag ammo loaded with 180gr SPFB bullets. Lady Luck must be on my side as no local gun shop had 30-40 Krag ammo or brass. I will reassemble the action and shoot with cast bullets just to see how this unusual combination works.

Got LUCKY again this morning as I bought a BSA Martini International complete with a Freeland box, Unertl Tube sight, inserts, leather sling, and other goodies. The rifle appears to have a barrel harmonic device situated in the front of the beaver tail fore end that will take some research on my part. The rifle is in 90% condition and I cannot wait to take it out to the range.

Last week a .218 Bee was available for the princely sum of $650 at a local, extremely small gun show. Even though it looked nice, I haven't had my head in the Martini mkt for a while so wasn't even close to making an offer, and for another chambering to load.

218 Bee was a good varmit round. A Martini in this cal would be very accurate.
