Somethings never change PT&G again

Just finished chambering a 300 WM MK13 barrel for a PT&G . Took awhile to figure out why it wouldn't close on a gage. Decided to try some ammo. This is what happened. The rivet is standing tall. Not sure if I can dress it down enough.

The magnums all still use a riveted extractor. The fix for that problem is to remove the rivet and replace with a new one properly seated and backed up by an anvil when it is peened over.

The problem is this is a PT&G bolt. I can see the edge of the extractor under the rivet extending inside the bolt. Improperly cut recess so no fix using the current style extractor.

If it comes down to this option I have a cutter I modified to do this. Mine was a 223 bolt but Im sure the cutter will work PM me if you need it

Yes it would but I'm already seeing the profit on this job declining. If I figure my time dealing with the customer, who supplied the action, I'll probably be in the red.

I guess you will have to notch the brass and make sure they are timed correctly when loading, it is good that 300 WM usually not a dangerous game gun so if a round is not timed correctly no will probably die.

Just had a rare revelation. I don't want to be the last person to touch this. Very seldom does it turn out well.

It would be a single shot. You need a small plastic hammer to tap the bolt into place.

I would just set that rivet against my riveting anvil and flatten it out some. Then dress it down with a diamond rotary file in a dremel. WH

I don't make my living doing what you do, but from where I sit I would let the customer know what the issue is and what options he has - including what you could do but as a different/new price job.

I woud send it back to pacific trash and garbage and let them fix it. But it is likely going to take a year with no guarantee it will come back any better than it is now. Time to bush it and install a mini m16 extractor. On the customers dime if possible.

You can always send out for a M-16 extractor and charge the customer for it
