Something new from SAKO: Sako 100 rifle

Sako has announced new hunting rifle, celebrating SAKOs 100 year anniversary.
For my eyes it seems that it has been designed for central european markets.

Well, form follows function and unfortunately that sometimes means the result is not as aesthetically pleasing as we would like. I won't be trading my Mauser sporters for these, but it wouldn't stop me from buying one if they shoot well.

I too have been a Sako advocate. IMHO, they should have stopped design changes at the A-Series. We have a 75 Model and an 85 Model, both of which are very accurate. However, from a design perspective, I don't care for them. I have rifles that I built off of the L-579 but would never consider a build on anything past the A-Series. I recently purchased an AV Laminated that is a beautiful hunting rifle.

Yeah, not for me either.
My virginal pre-Garcia L461 Vixen in 223 is in no danger of being replaced, especially by a Sako that looks like the 100. Not now, now ever.

I'm a Sako fan.... this is something different. I can appreciate the effort. I think the picture below gives a better idea of the what/why of the design. The action is a switch-barrel that also incorporates the scope mount affixed to the barrel extension.

I like the idea of a schnabel, but most are to ornate/narrow to either function well on a field gun or look balanced on a stock with a wider forearm. I think this is a pretty good impressionist styling of a schnabel that you don't have to worry about or baby. I like the stock's j-hook cut-away for use with a shooting bag, which is also a tool compartment for the barrel swap tool.

What it is missing is a wrap-over cheek rest with a shadowline. However, instead that black button in middle of stock is to release/adjust the spring-loaded, adjustable cheek rest.

If someone gave me this or a Dutchess .... I wouldn't turn them away.

My fav rifle is the switch barrel Sauer 200 but they dont make one in short action, thus my L461 223. I will take the Sauer in long action chamberings any day over a Sako. The 202 is the newer versioner rifle but I prefer the unique ambi safety of the 200. 4993FC44-3E54-4AAE-B5C6-F17BCB69C1B1_1_201_a.jpeg.

Appreciate the post. I'm a Sako fan. Vixen's .222, AI, AII, Mod 75's. Pretty classic, great shooting factory rifles. These are not perhaps as beautiful, but reflect modern trends in rifle design. Like cars, each new model year has to adapt, incorporate advances/trends, features, compete and...sell. I DO like my old Sakos. :)

The receiver shaping of the 85 makes it a nightmare for bedding. The 75 was much easier.

Only have one Sako- a 6BR carry varminter built round a factory single-shot 579. The action is perfectly proportioned for this job.

I have a 6PPC Sako and a .375 H&H Mag. Both shoot very nicely. I wish either of them had the nice wood shown in that top photo!

Personally I will stick to the classics like my sweet little 223, made by gunsmiths and not robots.View attachment 1329858
Why get a TRG? Was at range yesterday doing 4 rd test loads with some H322 and 55gr sierra bthp. This is how nice these little guns can shoot if the operator can do its part. 4x @ .13 says Ballistic-X

I read an article last night about the Sako 100. Does have some interesting "innovations". While at a glance it appears to be a standard 2-peice stock design the gun is actually a chassis setup. I was a little more impressed than anticipated.

Looks like a shooting machine.
