That sleeve is not a pillar, it is a spacer. It establishes the distance from the top of the mag box to the receiver. If you glue it to the stock, it becomes a pillar. Same thing at the front; not a pillar. WH

I LOVE old Mausers! I have 2 FN single shots in 222 and 22-250. I have others but my favorites are the Swedes in 6.5 x 55. I have a “few”. Great guns!

Mine was made in Yugoslavia... Or was it Czech?..need to look it up.... absolutely garbage compared to my brothers FN. Was yours a magnum?

Edit: It was Zastava in Yugo. The barreled action would be a tomato stake if I still had it.

Mine is a shilen bbl 6mm and its great along with a somewhat adustable trigger. Sorry yours is a POS but I have a problem as to WHY? Mine is fine I have that mark 10 in 6mm and an earlier 98 in 6BR Remington. I really like them both

There are many books and articles about Mauser rifles. Here are some interesting asides about 1891 Argentine Mauser rifles. I have a couple of 1891 Argentine Mauser's. They are both chambered in 7.65 Mauser, also known as the 7.65 Argentine, (.311 bore). The European designation is 7.65 X 54. This was basically the 308 Win (7.62 X 51) about 60 years early. The 1891 Argentine's cock on closing and do not have some safety features of the 1898 Mausers. Both have been sporterized. Most likely by Montgomery Wards in the 1950's. They were and are reliable open sighted hunting rifles here in Northern California. About 300 yards max. These were some of the first smokeless powder rifles. The .473" case head IIRC was supposedly from an earlier Dutch rifle. The .473" case head is still in common use today. The longest case cartridge that I know of is the 7 X 64 Brenneke, The 30-06 Springfield in European parlance is 7.62 X 63. The case has been shortened to under 1.5" (39 mm) is the basis for the 6 BR case and all of its cousins. The case has been opened up to the 458 American, and necked down to 22 cal in a 30-06 case. Another note is that early 7 mm Mausers have a bore of .286" not .284" which is the present standard. Without .286 bullets they do not shoot well.
