Solved: Advise re .222 Remington rifle

Mefizto one thing I will guarantee, the crowd around here is more than willing to help you spend your $$$$ ;-).

The up side, many here have been down the same road. Cheaper and easier to learn from others mistakes, the old “do as I say, not as I did”. It always amazes me the vast amount of knowledge and help given be folks here.

I will warn you on the “nutted” barrel systems. They WILL shoot. Then they are also like potato chips, one is not enough.
The up side, a barrel or caliber you don’t like can easily be swapped out with a little knowledge.

Good luck on your search! I look forward to your find and end result.

to echo a couple of previous posts, if you happen to run into a used 788 in .222 don't pass it up.

Like anything, not always true.
I had one that I planned for my walking varminter. Never shot it, sold it to a very savvy shooter, reloader. Asked him about it several years later at a reunion type shoot in suthern KY . . . He said he never could get it to shoot better than mediocre. Not mediocre for a 222 but mediocre for an avg chambering. Of course, ymmv.

I have two Remington 600's in .222. One is unfired, the other shoots pretty good - 3/4" - but I haven't really worked a load up for it or tried lighter bullets like the 40's. It's a pretty fun little gun.

By all means ENJOY. It will be interesting as to what your next addition to your safe will be. :)

Hi TAJ45,

thank you. Well, it will depend how I like the rifle/cartridge, and how my next year's hunt with my friends goes.

Hi nockhunter,

No, I have found a Remington LVSF in very nice condition from about 2004, and after doing some research, it appears to be quite good for a factory rifle.

Kindest regards,

M

Well one thing is for sure, if and when it wears out or you want to change, you have a rifle that will feed the 221 FB case, then you can re-barrel it to a 20 VT and really have fun.

Hi nockhunter,

thank you, I hope so. It actually comes form a highly recommended source, so we'll see.

Hi Bill_K,

I am starting to suspect that you, and the rest of the people here, as nice as you all are, will not be a good influence on my budget.

Kindest regards,

M
