Solid brass bullets - Want to know

I think they are illegal. I may be wrong. And i think it is because they can potentially create a safety hazard down at the pits. Solid bullets are more likely to ricochet and injure a target puller.

I know, for a fact, that Alan Warner shot his solid (monolithic) bullets this past summer at a Palma match in NY. I do not believe they are illegal, and can be used as they are allowed at the range.

I have shot a lot of them. They are plenty accurate but cost alone stops many from trying them. Driving bands are on most of the ones I have shot. As to tube life they do not last as long but the cost savings once you get to the larger calibers starts to pay off shooting turned bullets.

I have asked two F class shooters here in the UK if solid bullets are allowed on Ministry of Defence/National Rifle Association ranges and the answer is no they are not due to the possibility of ricochets that could injure butt crews and there is also the consideration of insurance issues arising from their use. But always best to ask the competition organiser if anyone is considering shooting on any UK range (private or otherwise).

That's the case with the National Shooting Centre Bisley complex and all Ministry of Defence standard 'gallery' ranges in the UK. The NRA of GB banned them on Bisley after complaints from the pits ('butts' we call them) crews.

At last I got a clear answer to my question.
To those who may want to use these kind of bullets anyway, I must say that it is of utmost importance to produce them in a personalized way for every and each barrel, mostly when a flat -non ringed- profile is chosen.
A thorough calculation must be done in order to issue a bullet diameter that, once in the core of the barrel, fills the complete profile of it.
Say more or less the same as when you button rifle a barrel.
In the case of bullets, the number of grooves and both diameters of the bore must be taken into deep consideration to get a final caliber diameter to go with.
