So. Which round to go with (6-47 Lapua or 6XC or 6.5 Creedmoor )

So. I am starting a new build. I need some help on deciding on what round to do. I have narrowed it down to a 6-47 Lapua or 6.5 Creedmoor or a 6XC. The barrel will be a krieger or Bartien Remington varmint 26"-28". I will at times be hunting deer but mostly hitting rock chucks and steel. What do you guys thing.

If you're considering a 6.5 creedmoor why not a 6.5x47? Better brass with either 47.

The 6.5-47 lapua is also a possibility.

The strength of the *X47L case has been discussed at length. The XC holds many titles but as a credit to the Drivers they could do it with another. I own a 6X47L and I don't believe I could be talked out of it. Don't know much about the Creedmoor but have never heard anything negative other than having only one case manufacturer. If its good stuff one is enough. Guess I'm no help at all! ;D

6.5x47 for barrel life. There are a ton of reasons to go with the 47 compared to a creedmoor.
Small primer. Super efficient. Crazy accurate. Just 3.

The issue with the 6.5x47 Lapua and the 6.5 Creedmore is that only one manufacturer makes brass for each.
6.5x47 Lapua - Lapua Brass
6.5 Creedmore - Hornady

The choice is clear.

I agree with Erik. The 6.5x47 is scary accurate.

I'd go with a .260 Remington or 6.5 Creedmoor. I think people worry too much about "brass quality" to be honest. I worry more about brass supply and availability. With the .260 Rem, you can make it if you need to. My tactical rig is a .260 Rem. I lose a lot of brass at matches, so I cringe at the idea of losing $1.20 ea---which is why I switched from 6.5x47 to .260 Rem. Currently, I'm running Remington .260 brass and have some that I've fired 10 times and its still going strong. I picked it up for $0.36 each a couple years ago. I deburr the flash holes, uniform the pockets, size, trim to length, and shoot. I've managed to win a few multi-range F class matches and shoot just as good a scores as the guys with dedicated F rigs in 6mmXC, 6.5x47, etc. Since you're mostly banging steel and hunting with it, I'd not worry about any perceived accuracy benefit of the 6.5x47L.

I am in the process of building a 6x47L for a similar role, Coyotes and Deer. I have all the components but the barrel that is on order from PacNor. I got the Lapua brass converted, which was easy once I was helped with the proper procedure. I will be running the 58 VMAX for Coyotes and the 85 Nosler Partition for deer. I was also torn between the 6XC and the Lapua. I picked the Lapua because of the excellent brass, easy neck down, and cheaper dies. Also, mine will be a short 18" barrel running suppressed. I thought the 6x47L might be better in this setup. I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Brass quality is a big part of accuracy. But I agree, the tactical accuracy requirements are not such that you need quality brass. F-Class and BR are a different story however.

Make the 6.5 Creedmore brass from Lapua 308 Palmaj and turn the necks for a perfect fit. Whats the problem?

The OP seems to be shooting steel and hunting, which is what I'm basing my suggestion on. He's not shooting BR. As your sig-line suggests, the shooter is more important than anything else. I've managed to beat lots of Lapua and Norma shooters with my uniformed Remington brass in F-class matches at the club level.

Ah, yes, club level...
Even so, I bet the guys that beat you were not using Remington brass.

I don't know about you guys, but I would rather shoot an 8 in a match than wound an animal, so I load my hunting ammo to competition standards.

I will be hunting and shooting some steel at 0-1000 yards up in the mountains with my shooting partner. I have been shooting the big magnums for about 12 years now and found I really am not enjoying it as I did when I was younger. I want to get back to the basics ( trigger, breathing, consistent mounting to the rifle) without getting pounded. I would like to take deer sized game out to 700 yards. I shoot about 20-50 rounds a wk up in the mountains. I am really thankful for everyone chiming in to tell me their thought and experience.
