So tell me abou the .300PRC?

I have been thinking about a new hunting rifle. What I have always wanted was a full length non-belted case that was .532 in diameter. I am disappointed yet again. I can see the 300 PRC working well for its intended application, but in a hunting rifle there it has no advantage over my 300 Ack. I would love a 2.85”, .532 diameter, 35 degree shoulder non-belted .338 to slightly improve on my 340 Wby. Then again, a 225 grain TTSX at 2925 has no issue with cleanly taking most critters.

big 30's worth considering if you like loud muzzle blast and moderate recoil...

7.82 Warbird
300 Imperial Magnum
300 Pegasus

And one that's very close to your wanted criteria...

300 RUMBO

Maybe what you really want is those .338" Barnes 225gr TTSX bullets flying out of a 28"bbl at 3,400+ fps ? 338 Xtreme is your ticket

Looks like another great option for a long range elk round. I hope the dod contract gets Lapua or ADG interested enough to make brass. I like a non rebated, non belted option for a big .30!

I hope so too I built a 300-375 Ruger by necking down a 375 Ruger to shoot bullets over 200 grains, the Hornady brass is OK but Lapua, ADG or Peterson brass would be a better option.

given a bench rest rifle for 1000 yard shooting what are they loading in it and what does it group like at the 200 yard range?
i assume it should give you 1/4 inch groups at say 100 yard and carry on out to the 1000 yard mark at the same accuracy level.

Hi Dave - the 300 PRC, for me is an interesting hunt rnd, but is the heavy bullet really needed? With the new offerings from Berger and Sierra, 200.20x and 200gn , one can get great accuracies from a 284 case.

I know my shoulder appreciates it - when shooting 50 to 60 heavy gun shots per match.

I agree with minimizing shoulder abuse. I hunt with the 300 PRC with 212 EDL-X's. I back them down to 2825 FPS for non dangerous game. With that said depending on what I plan on hunting I can crank up the performance with heavy bullets. Better to have it and not need it.

i assume this case will work in a untouched 700 remington already shooting a 300 winchester case.given a 26 inch # 3 or 4 barrel will it stay with a 300 weatherby ?i am looking at deer loads of say 180 to200 grain out to about my max of 750 yards at this time.
how long to get a barrel and put it on my action?

Seems like a lot of gun and bullet for deer! They really that big where you are? Guys around me take them all the time with 243 slinging 100s at pretty decent distances.

What do you want to know about the 300 PRC. I've been shooting it since 2007. I introduced Accuracy International to the round. They submitted it to USSOCOM for their solicitation for PSRI. Between myself and the Hornady 1K BR competitors we all have a decade+ experience with the round.

What I have read is that the 300 Norma Mag was the round they had decided on. The 300 PRC is going into next phase testing against it. So, this will not be the final purchase.

I'll be using my 338 LM improved with 230 ELD-X bullets for whitetails this fall. No such thing as too much gun. A buddy used his 50 BMG with the 750 Amax round on an elk hunt. If you got it, use it. Why not ? It does no good sitting in a safe collecting finger prints from everyone handling it except the owner. His kill with his 50 caliber didn't look like one might expect. Exit hole was about 1.5" in diameter. Entrance half inch. Not any different than a 50 caliber muzzleloader except exit hole was a bit larger.
