So many Niteforce Competition Scopes for Resale!

I'm just wondering why there are so many New or nearly New Niteforce Competition Series Scopes being listed on these and Benchrest. com Classifieds?????
It is a new offering and clearly designed to compete with the Leopold Competition Series and the various March varients. The scopes are being offered at below new price with the description as new in the box to only been to the range a couple of times!

It causes me to wonder what is causing these people to resell their newly acquired scope???
Is it the reticule? Optics? weight? WHAT??

Would love to hear others thoughts!!!

I think some folks just wanted to check them out against what they had, and they found out they were not worth the extra money involved... Thats kinda why I bought one anyways, and I will keep it......

What's to like about it? (1) Do like the side focus. (2) Do like the lighter weight. (3) Do like the slightly smaller overall size. (4) Do like the ED glass. (5) Do like the NP-DDR reticle.

What's not to like about it??????????????????????????? Still working on that. Could it be Nothing? ;D

Terry: O.K., thanks. I'll add that one also in the what's to like category: (6) eye relief suits me fine.

Long ago, perhaps, but still potentially of use to other readers.

I removed a Competition scope from one of my F-TR rifles last year. The glass is outstanding, and it has never had any issues with holding zero, as reported with some of the earlier Comp scopes. Unfortunately, Nightforce has chosen to make the stadia/dots in their various reticles so fine that I can no longer reliably visualize them against the F-Class target black. When I added to that the relatively tight "eye box" found on the Competition scope, I decided to use something else. The tight eye box by itself was merely a relatively minor annoyance, but when combined with my difficulty seeing the reticle, the whole thing became a deal-breaker. Thus my Competition scope will probably also end up in the "For Sale" section whenever I get around to it.

The Competition scope has some very nice features, including the outstanding glass, so it will continue to be sought after, certainly by those that don't have any issue seeing the reticle or with the tight "eye box". Unfortunately, it is not always possible know how a given scope might work out until you actually have it in your hands. Perhaps others with the same issues I found using the Competition scope are part of the reason they have been put up for sale.

Jim - assuming you were asking me, I replaced the NF Comp on that particular rifle with an IOR-Valdada 9-36X Spyder. It's an experimental thing; whether it stays there will be decided after a few matches with it in the current configuration. I have practiced with the Spyder few times and I think it will probably work out. I have thought about having the reticle replaced in the Comp as one possible option. But in the long run it will probably be easier to sell it and get something else. I like the wide range of reticle dot/stadia subtensions in the March High Master series scopes, so I may try one of those. If I do, I may have to relive my early college days, surviving on hot dogs and ramen noodles until it is paid for. LOL. Unfortunately, the few scopes I really like in the current market all seem to be rapidly approaching the $4K mark.

I tried the March HM 10-60x56 with the MTR-4
A little too much for BR, (busy with the circle) but for FTR might be the ticket with the circle and floating dot.
You can bracket the circle on those targets.
The MTR-2 dot is probably to small since you said your having trouble now.
Try the MTR-5 it's the same but the dot is twice the size.

Looking at the available reticles from March, I didn't care for the circle around the dot of the MTR-4, either. The IOR-Valdada scopes I currently have use a 0.125 MOA dot @ 36X, and it is fine for my eyes. The dots on the NF scopes with which I have issues seeing are smaller (~0.116 MOA @36X for the NXS 12-42s, 0.105 MOA @36X for the Comp). The MTR-5 dot translates to ~0.138 @36X, which as you noted should be fine, so that's the one I would likely choose.

Mine has the MTR 5 and Its much better than the 3...my eyes are not so good any more either.
The Glass is good and it plain works for my discipline in F open,
speaking of the March 10-60x56 High Master that is.
my other fave is the boat anchor SVSSED Sightron....just had to put my backup gun on a diet to be able to use it...lol

At 70, I still don't need glasses, and that real fine dot on the March
MTR-2 is perfect for me. Scope is no where near time to be mounted
up but, I put it on a tripod to adjust my initial focus with it. At 20 yards
to my back fence, I focused in on a hole made by a finish nail. Impressive !!

I survived off of many a ketchup sandwich in my day - hope to never revisit that time period!
