So I Got Me a Black Rifle

I must be about the last guy to get an AR. It's pretty much entry level economy type - Anderson Arms AM 15. Flat top, 1/8" twist, no sights, except the honking big squirrel scope I latched on with a Primary Arms cantilever base.
Nope, you're not the last one but I might be since I still don't have one.

Last time I shot one was in 1971 courtesy of the United State Army, Fort Campbell, Ky. The ammo was free. ;) I will say however it was one hell of a weapon especially with a bayonet attached.

I use these -

Also have -

And for the rear -

I made one each of the first two for myself out of delrin. The picture with 2, I made the one on the left.

I've been messing around with it and learning the essentials. So far I got the trigger reduced from a full 8.5 pounds down to a creepy 4 1/2. It actually feels OK, but then I've been known to shoot SKS's for fun.

RV, I don't think I could afford that many quarters for the tube.

I figure I still need to get a laser, GPS, bottle opener, blue tooth speaker, go-pro cam, radio dog control, and amplified speaker. Can ya suggest anything else? jd
Belt feed....

They are like Lays Potato Chips. Can't have just one. Need one for High Power competition. One for varmint hunting. One for home defense. Then you need an AR10. In 308 for sure and another upper in a caliber of your choice.

What is fascinating about an AR?
I'm not saying that I'm fascinated, but at least now I'm interested. Maybe I'm even starting to appreciate the platform. As I mentioned in an above post, I even appreciate SKS's.o_O Heck, I'm a gun-nut, and have been for sixty years. My interests are eclectic, and even hokey at times. I guess maybe this is the latest crush I'm having in the gun world. jd

I say go with it. If you end up with more than one, fine. If not, fine too.
There's a lot of folks that don't know sheet about guns they don't own, a lot that really don't know sheet about guns they do own. I want to know how each gun I own is made. What was the reason behind every cut, groove, corner, curve. This first AR is that opportunity as opposed to buying the hottest factory rifle and accessories available, chasing the best brand. I think you made a good choice to test the waters. Some small mods will make it better. No need for a bipod or rest that cost more than the rifle, not just yet :) Parts with desirable logos to show off to your shooting buddies or post pictures just cost money.
You've jumped over to the dark side. Have fun. Hope we see some good groups in the future from your "low end" AR.
"Eat More Chicken"

I'm not a great shooter, but when the old guy with a AR-15 in 22 Nosler (the Corvair of sports cars :) )
beats someone at an F-Open match with a rifle that cost more than my 2nd hand Pickup,
--that's gotta hurt.

Some small mods I would consider on your AR.
Stock, molded grip, a better trigger (decide on single or two stage), a better barrel, a matched upper/lower receiver set with matching fore end, high end springs and pins, a better BCG, Silent capture buffer with a flat wound spring, Bo-Bro mount of course instead of that cheapo Primary Arms mount. Try not to go much over $100 for a charging handle ($70 or less).
You've got a good start there with your $500 AR. Another $1200 to $1500 in simple mods, and a couple grand for a mid-tier scope and you can post pictures and groups without being embarrassed.
Do you know the name of the gunsmith that put your rifle together and tuned it?
Won't b anything to brag about, but at least you won't b dogged about shooting an AR.
Don't forget to budget in replacement parts as they were out. A barrel, bolt, stock only last so many rounds.

Hope you get over your embarrassment to post a comparison of your new AR to one of your SKSs.
It's been a while since I had an SKS at the range.

Wait , so question, what are you shooting right now , as far as group sized , and what do you want to shoot as far as group size ? Think that will help with a lot

Wife has the MBA-3 on her AR.
Set LOP and made a lead plug to fit in behind the lower extension to get the weight UP.
and a heavy steel channel front bag rider. See the empty in the ammo box?
Set gas way down, cut ejector spring, and it dribbles cases out about a foot.

Anyway we could get some more info about this built ? Pretty awsome imo

Not really that awesome.
Assembled in the kitchen with a BCA side charger and an X-Caliber 28" bull barrel, Larue MBT-2S.
Under an MOA @ 100, 300, a little over @ 600.
Oh, and it's also a 22 Nosler.

There really nice for people like me who neither have a shop worth of machining tools , a gunsmith or the funds to pay a gunsmith.

Personally I've really really enjoyed being able to order all the parts I want and put together an upper or lower to fit my needs and not spend an arm and a leg not have crazy long waits. Also the ability to have one lower and multiple uppers ,for me has been so nice !
Need to go in the brush after pigs. Slap in the 16" 7.62x39 with the LPVO, Varmints ? 18" KAK 17-5.56 with the 6-24 , calling where the coyote might wanna stay at 400yd ? Got a 20" .223 Wylde fast twist . Ect.

Can do about everything I need to pretty easy with a $200 armors kit .

And you can make them be whatever you want. Basically their the Legos of the gun world . Can spend as little or as much as you want and still have a half decent boom stick......I less your version of half decent is something that shoots 1/4" bear minimum all day every day with a beautiful wooden stock.....in that case yeaaaah probably not for you .... But if you like me and your tickled pink with 3/4" consistently when you do your part that's another thing.

Was wondering if that was a BCA side charger. But idk man imo I think that awsome! Then again I'm a broke farm boy who build.moat of his from NBS and discounted parts so many I'm just easy to please:D

I do a good bit of my own fine tuning.
Receiver lapping, secret spray on shim, and real thermal fitting (over/freezer) and a singe shot sled..
Home made ambi bolt release
She really likes the MBA-3 stock for bag use.

I'm still holding out! I still haven't bought an AR! Probably never will, I have shot several & never found one that fit right & shot well enough for me

The only reason I spent my money on an AR was for CMP highpower format league at my local gun club. Other wise i would have diverted that money to other firearm items.

However, when you build an AR, and you have like 2 parts left over, it somehow grows into a 2nd AR. Then my brain decided, well lets build an exact duplicate of the 2nd AR but modify the gas system to run cast bullets.

So now the guy who never wanted an AR ..... now owns 3.
