Small pistol primers in 223 case

Has anyone used small pistol primers in a 223 or 300 Blackout? And not shooting hot loads.

Small rifle primers are getting hard to come by.
I've done it in both calibers for the same reason. Hundreds of rounds with cci#500 no issues and could not tell the difference. Both guns are ar's.

I have used CCI small pistol primers in 223 cases and never experienced a problem. I did not do it purposely though. I could tell no difference in accuracy. I shoot a lighter load than some.

Huh, I feel really ignorant now and pretty PO’d now. To think all of these years we have been lied to about primers. The extra driving and waiting time I have wasted when I only needed large and small and need not worry about anything else...........
Those that do it, go ahead and I bid you well.

I have seen some F’d up stuff since this all started again. Yet there are folks that think this is the first time it has happened.
I have seen numerous stupid screw ups local to me. I have seen them on various forums

Sorry gents I will use and continue to use what the “recipe” calls for.
IMO this whole thread should be erased by the Forum Boss, not just locked.

There are small rifle primers I avoid as being inadequate in respect to being able to handle nominal pressure reliably without periodically leaking gas and messing up my bolt face. I'd never consider using a pistol primer, period. I too would try to do a trade with someone.

Small Rifle Standard

CCI 400 -thin .020" cup, not recommended for AR15 use by CCI/Speer. Good for .22 Hornet, .30 Carbine. See Note 1 at the bottom of the page

NOTE 1: According to Speer/CCI Technical Services - Both the CCI 550 Small Pistol Magnum and CCI 400 Small Rifle primers are identical in size. Both primers use the same cup metal and share the same cup thickness. Both primers use the same primer compound formula and same amount of primer compound. They can be used interchangeably.
I've been told from a guy who used to work for federal cartridge the amount of compound in small pistol was 60 milligrams and small rifle was 64 or 66 milligrams. Everything else is same
