Small bore grins

Took me a while to come around to trying anything small for varminting or just shooting. About a year ago I bought my first small centerfire - a maple stocked CZ in .204 Ruger. Has turned out to be simply a delightful little rifle.

Pros:
Very light and handy for walking all day after coyote & rockchucks.
Mild report.
No recoil.
Flat shooting.
Inexpensive to feed.,This one sorta surprised me, I hadn't realized how inexpensive little bitty bullets are compared to 190 gr .30 cal pills)

Cons:
Had to buy it a special small-diameter cleaning rod. Wah.
Not quite as accurate as I'd hoped, but not bad. Working on that.

Have to admit that I've been pretty pleased with this little rifle. Loading for it was easy after some guidance from those with more experience with the small-bore centerfire cartridges. I load with Wilson dies and my little arbor press, the .204 seems like a perfect use for such a setup.

Just tossing in my experience here - perhaps someone considering a .204 or other small centerfire will pick up something worthwhile.

Regards, Guy

Ditto on the 204. I needed a new barrel on my 700SA and on quite a bit of advise from various people went with a Benchmark barrel chanbered in 204. This thing is just plain fun to shoot. Last weekend I took my son shooting and 20oz Pepsi bottles at 300yds were a gimme. It was the first time I had seen a hit throgh the scope as recoil is almost nonexistant.

Mine likes 35gr Bergers over a near max load of Benchmark. I haven't shot any varmints with it yet, but I hope to remedy that next month. Too much fun.

A friend of mine is shooting 39-40 grainers over 27.5 grains of Varget. Use caution as I believe this is the MAX load. It is for my 223 with 55 grains bullets and it also loves this powder charge.
