Small base sizing dies?

Does anyone know who might make or offer a small base sizing die for 6mm Rem? And if it's possible to order one, what info must be provided to the die maker?

Thanks

Mike

Redding & RCBS plus other make small base die's. Check there web-site. I know they make them for PPC, but haven't look for others.

Thank you very much! I just completely overlooked that while checking Midway.

One question, though. This makes no sense, but the technical description on the link says that these dies are not recommended for bolt action rifles.

I've had a 6mm VLS rebarreled with a Krieger, and the old brass I used, even after FL sizing, chambers but it has a very tight feel when I press down on the bolt handle to close it. Like I said, it chambers, but it feels tight on the up and downstroke of the bolt handle. I'm thinking my FL die isn't sizing the case all the way down.

It's no bit deal, because I have about 500 NIB cases that have never been fired, but I have a like amount that have been fired only 2-3 times. I hate to waste the perfectly good brass.

Even though the disclaimer says not for bolt action rifles, I'm thinking a single session thru this die should give new life to this old brass. After that, I'd go back to using my Redding bushing neck sizing die.

Am I overlooking something?

Thanks for the help!

Mike

edit: I'd check myself, but the Midway lines are busy, and RCBS has no staff member on hand that can answer this question.

Mike:
The small base die set is specific for auto and pump chambers, to reduce brass to a minimum so they will reliably chamber a round…
OK…what you are describing is that your dies are not pushing the shoulder back quite far enough for your custom barrel chamber…This is my best guess….My suggestion would be to purchase the Stony Point Head Space Gage set and measure the brass before FL sizing and after…Measure a case fired in your chamber then re-size it in your die, the measurement should be less after FL sizing….In most cases you will only want to push the shoulder back .001 from a fired case dim….
I have had the same problem in the past…I had a Hunter Bench .308 Win built by a very reputable Gunsmith/ Barrel maker in 1989…..I never could get the FL brass to chamber easy from day one…I set my dies to the max., squeezing them back as far as I could…Not knowing much in those days I just lived with it until I purchased the Stoney Point set….Then I found out that my chamber was .002 tighter than what my dies would set the shoulder back…
This could be remedied by purchasing the Redding Shell Holder Set, they I believe have .002 incriminates between them to allow for pushing the shoulder back further…I never purchased that set but I did make my own shell holders that will allow me to cam over and set the shoulder back just what I want…I would much prefer this to SM Base dies…
In Bench rest I push the shoulder back no more than .001 but actually try to go just a little less…. The less you work the brass the better …

Hope this helps…Rick
