slow twist 6 BRDX barrel length/weight

my backyard range is only 300 yards and thinking about a 12 twist 6BRDX barrel to shoot light bullets,,and use my dies and brass and stuff I already have,,

what is the best length barrel to get complete burn with say a 68 gr bullet and VVN 135 or 8208,,I would like a straight 1.250 but not sure I want it that heavy if I need a 28 inch barrel,,if 24-25 would be good I may get a 1.250 if it needs a 26-28 a HV will be about as fat as I want,,

Your HV tapers have been shooting very well for you. A nose heavy rifle has a tendency to shoot vertical, so I would base that off how your rifle balances now. You could always add lead to the butt section if the 1.250" was a little bit tippy. I can add 8 to 10 oz lead and still make 17 pounds with a 1.250" barrel @ 26". You are not concerned with how much it weighs, so consider how it will balance with more forward weight.

so you would stick with the long HVs even with 68-75 gr bullets,,,I like the weight now but just figured a shorter barrel fat enough to retain same weight might shoot better???

all my figuring leads me back to the 105 load even for 300 yards,,the 105 VLD and Scenars at 3000 is 75% better in wind at 300 than the 68 at 3600

the XC case or 6SLR would be slightly better but barrel life would suffer and cost more to shoot plus new tooling
so looks like i will just shoot my 105s at 300 unless I learn some new tricks in match conditions

I would stay with HV tapers, and throw in the mix the barrel makers will custom contour at your wishes. I have had a few 1.050" @ 28" which was one of Mike Davis favorite Lt Class tapers. I know you do not shoot IBS, but there is so much to be learned from his and many other Piedmont competitors many who have set world records. MarkS is who I mentioned to you about tuning for a certain speed 2980 with 105`s!! Many look for the velocity and BC advantage when a properly tuned rifle will win matches with less speed or a BC advantage. Thats more score shooting, and why the big powerful 7mm`s are prized by F-Class.
