SK Pistol Match

Did they change the packaging? The link I put up shows a black box (special) and a gold box (match).

The brick I bought says Pistol Match and is in a black and green box, the Pistol Match Special I see is also in a green and black box, think I got mine from Ammunition store.com

That is what i have seen is that both are in a black and green box.. which to me can make it confusing, causing someone to buy the wrong thing..

Both have green and black color box! nilebartram

Yep! Well I know the gold box match shoots great in my gun. I assume the black box match is the same as gold box match. I will confirm one day.

I have personally tested SK Pistol Match against SK Match years ago in my Suhl 150. The SK Pistol Match shot better. I think I shot some SK Pistol Match Special along time ago. It was nowhere close to SK Pistol Match.

I am really tempted to order a case of this stuff.. But i am thinking that my Turbo really likes stuff with a lil more velocity to it.. i would also like to try that SK Biathlon, the Lapua Biathlon that i got a chance to try, just hammered in the Turbo..

I spoke to the Lapua reps at Camp Perry a number of years ago regarding their Pistol Match and Pistol Match Special products. This is the info they gave me.

The "Special" was introduced because the velocity did not produce enough force to cycle the bolt on the Walther GPS pistol. So they bumped the fps a bit and settled on about a 25fps increase (in a pistol barrel).

Also, they use to advertise velocities on their .22 ammo boxes, but they have stopped this practice. Due to the fact that the velocities on the boxes were from 24" - 26" test barrels (not pistol barrels). In my case the SK Pistol Match had a listed velocity of 1033fps, though in actuality out of a pistol barrel it rated about 950fps.

For my Hammerli's (208s') the Pistol Match lot I settled on produces 1/2" 10 shot 50 yard groups (still have a case and a half left of that for the long line).

IMO, with any .22 ammo as stated in an earlier post, you always need to test lots in order to find what works best in you guns. I have tested newer lots of Pistol Match that do not average under 1".
