Site Needs .243/.243AI Loads & Comments

In my Sako AII 24 inch varmint rifle, with a medium contour varmint barrel the 70gr Nosler Ballistic Tip Varmint and 42.7grs Varget gave me the following 5 shot group at 125 yards of 0.354. Velocity of that load taken at 5m from muzzle, range rules mean that I have to shoot through a tire tunnel), so couldn't place chronograph close to muzzle are as follows:

shot 1: 3463fps
Shot 2: 3463fps
Shot 3: 3454fps
Shot 4: 3445fps
Shot 5: 3445fps.

I use Lapua .243 brass exclusively with Federal 210 primers.

By the way, the Sako has never been bedded, it is an honest Sako factory rifle . Only thing that has been done to it is the trigger lightened.

Regards,

Michael.

Accuracy Load in my 243 1 in 10 Blaser rifle, Berger molly 95g VLDs,seated into lands, Lapua brass, 46.6 n160, fed match prm, .240 at 200y prone with by and mono pod. paul.

Pretty hard to beat W760......26.5" Pacnor 13" twist, very tight chamber with .273NK and NO freebore.....

48.7gr - W760 - 70TNT - BR2 - PMC brass = 3858,fireforming)...... 3/10"
Never got around to chronographing formed cases. They're probably about the same.

Primer tests with 760 and 70TNTs were interesting.....Fed 210M vs CCI250.....the 250 dropped velocity by 30fps or more, but SD was dramatically lower in all loads. In one max load, SD with the 210M was 37.8, while a CCI250 dropped SD to 4.4. I've tested that CCI primer against the Rem. 9-1/2 in a 22-250AI and had the same results.

Stumbled on this one last month. Holland .243 AI, Pac Nor 25" 1:12, Lapua Brass, F210M, 42g Varget, 75g V-Max touching lands. 3600 fps and SD of 2. 3-shots @ 100 yds.

Thanx for that post. I have a 1:12 Pac Nor chambered for .243 A.I. with a .270 neck that has just been broken in. I had this barrel put together to shoot everything from 58 grn. up to perhaps 80 grns. and will start developing loads; the 75 grn. V-Max is one of the bullets I intend to shoot.
Chino69

Chino: Don't overlook the 55g Nosler BT and a case full of Varget. I was getting 4150 fps. The Nosler has a high B.C. for its weight, and shoots damn flat. Downside, it heats up a barrel fast.

I just tested a new promising load for a standard .243 Winchester. The rifle is a Tanner with a 28 inches Lothar Walther barrel.
This load holds with a pretty good regularity 1/4 MOA groups of 5 shots at 200 meters .... despite the fact that the barrel has shot a bit more than 7 000 rounds.

- Lapua brass
- Lapua Scenar moly 105 grains bullet
- CCI BR2 primer
- Vihtavuori N 550 : 2.53 gramms,39 grains)
- 885 m/s,2904 fps)

Hi all, hi alain;)
For me, in a Savage 12fv 243win with just a B&C stock
lapua brass
berger 95 vld moly
37grs of vihta N150
RWS 5341 primer
6 shoots at 200 meters
No speed sorry, maybe in a few day

It took 5 weeks of evenings, but I cut threads, chambers, glass bedded, pillar bedded, drilled and tapped, and even cut a 2 position safety for turning a couple 1903 Turkish Mausers into sporter .243s, with spare parts lying around my house.

I went to the range and tested 100 gr jammed into the lands with 45 gr H4350.
This opened the new Winchester .243 brass extractor groove by .001" and made the next primer easy to install, but did not fall out. After 5 firings, the primer pocket was not getting any bigger, still shootable.

I reduced to 100 gr jammed into the lands 43 gr H4350 and got 2975 fps with a 24" barrel.
There was no degradation in primer insertion force when re using the same piece of brass 6 times.

I would like to say that I got great groups, but these were Addams and Bennett barrels that cost $37 in 2002 for the stainless and $50 for the fat one later. They shot ~2 moa typically, but the fat one can shoot 65 gr Vmax at 3500 fps and gets 1 moa on 5 shot groups.

Anyway, it kept me away from watching TV for 5 weeks.

Factory Remington 700 VLS, .243 Winchester, 26 inch barrel, 1 in 9 twist.

45 grains of R-22 in weighed and sorted Winchester brass,
CCI BR-2 primers, 95 grain Berger VLD's. Bullets are all measured on comparator, sorted and seated .003 into the lands. COL varies if measured from tip of the bullets to the base of tha case. Measure and sort your bullets with a comparator to determine the base to ogive dementions. They will all vary by a few thousandths this is why its imperative to establish a COL to the lands with your seating deapth tool first so they all engage the lands exactly the same every time. Check the COL by using a seating deapth tool to establish how far out to seat the bullet just to the lands of the barrel. Know this for each lot of bullets you measured and sorted then I added .003 push into the lands which seats every bullet exactly the same as the last no matter what the bullets base to ogive dementions are.

This load gets me down in the
3 inch range at 900 yards. And
less than 1/4 inch groups at 100
yards.

A wealth of information is a real mouthful: As a proponent of .243 Winchester PROWESS, I offer ALL I've discovered regarding .243 Winchester P-R-O-W-E-S-S to the extreme. From dead-on accuracy to extreme power ratios down-range, I hold back no found specifics. I shoot more often than most people of, with more rounds fired than most people ever dream of concerning .243 Winchester fare. I'm retired from a work-a-day world, so the few bucks I have equate into ROUNDS fired. cliffy

Ain't you the one though. But this thread was asking for loads, not self-congratulatory bs.
